Pacific Northwest about to buy my 1st

Hello all. I'm brand new to the forum. I've never owned a diesel powered vehicle, but at this point in my life, it makes sense to get one. I know everyone has their brand loyalty, but I am at a loss which direction to go. I know Cummins is tried and true, but I've heard horror stories about the trannies backing them, whereas I know the Allison is a great trans but I know nothing about Duramax. Not really interested in Ford products. I would greatly appreciate any thoughts, opinions, constructive criticisms or suggestions. Im currently looking into a 2012 Dodge 2500, with about 75k miles on it. theres also a Chevy 2500 with about 90k on it that is interesting to me. Thanks in advance!

Update to the dummy (me) posting in a Diesel forum with no Diesel

I am happy to update that I have purchased my first diesel. Surprisingly, given my upbringing, Its a Ford. Who knew? I'm already really enjoying it. today I hooked up the high Idle to upfitter switch 3. I think that will be very helpful as winter sets in.

What I know about the truck so far:

2006 F350 Lariat 60.L
EGR Delete
Muffler Delete
Bulletproofed with ARP Studs
Gooseneck hitch
143,xxx miles
extensive paperwork from previous owner (1st owner)

Not crazy about the 285/55R20 Tires. Im hoping to get it a litte higher and go with maybe a 35 or 37. Hopefully on something a bit smaller than a 20" rim
