Hello Everyone
I just joined after reading so much advice and info on converting the famous 12 valve to run on SVO.
This sight has been a lot of help on the various pros and cons of running on waste veggie oil and really helped me in my final choices of parts and various systems.
I have a 96 Cummins extended cab 4 wheel drive with a 4 inch mbrp exhaust kn cold air intake, tst no.8 fuel plate slide full forward, star wheel turned up and afc tuned. BD performance automatic transmission, 6 autometer gauges pyro, boost, trans temp, fuel pressure, veggie temp and fuel filter temp.
I now see why there has become an almost cult following on these motors, they are so simple to work on this is my first diesel and have been able to do everything by researching online.
I absolutely love my truck, I get excited when I drive it more so now that I can get 1000 mpg. I just did a 800 km round trip that's 500 miles for those outside Canada and I burnt maybe 3 to 4 dollars of diesel enough to warm it up and purge at the end of the trip
I recently converted over to SVO or straight vegetable oil with a 2 tank system as I live in northern British Columbia Canada Where it is cold for 6 months of the year. Even in below zero temps I can start on diesel wait 15 mins or so and switch to oil that is heated to 170 deg, and drive for free.
Anyone contemplating doing this don't be scared, if you are mechanically minded and have the workings of the 12 valve fuel system figured out you can do this.
I used components from Plantdrive the heated vm2 filter, flat plate heat exchanger and Hot Fox in tank fuel heater, the rest of the stuff I got from local auto shops and hardware stores.
There is no greater satisfaction than running a 8000lb vehicle down the road with a carbon footprint less than the best hybrid and passing every fueling station with a big smile emitting the sweetest onion ring smell for all to enjoy. Our diesel price here is almost $7 gal so its a no brainer that my conversion will be paid off in no time, and then its money in the bank.
There are correct and incorrect ways to convert this amazing motor, done right as in properly filtered non-hydrogenated canola oil free of water and settled and centrifuged down to .05 micron, oil heated to minimum of 160 deg before the ip and correct switching temps and proper purging before shutting down, You will have many years of trouble free driving.
If you are contemplating get informed, read , read and then read some more, ask questions from ones who are successful and then dive in. Your 12 valve motor is probably one of the best, toughest engines ever developed and it loves oil.

I've been running on veg for a number of years now and share your enthusiasm completely. I started out on a junky old VW Rabbit pickup, then upgraded to a nicer Rabbit pickup, added an 04 TDI to the garage, then sold the Rabbit and upgraded to an '05 24 valve Cummins. That truck was great on SVO! I now have a '97 12 Valve Cummins. I've wanted one of these for quite some time and am excited to get the veg kit in. In pluming the fuel lines on the 24 valve for veg it was pretty straight forward. The 12 valve is proving to be a little more complicated. How did you plum your veg lines in your 96 Cummins? Thanks!
