Broke down and bought a cummins!

hey guys, i am not new to diesel engines, i have my AZ license and have been floating equipment for 2 years now. I work for my old man who owns and services 9 trucks, all with cummins/eaton powerplants, so i am somewhat knowledgeable towards diesel engines. I recently purchased an 03 4 door cummins, and i am absolutely in love with it :jump:. My biggest worry with this truck is the auto transmission, i have heard plenty of horror stories. The point of all of this, i am unsure about what steps to take in preventing failure with it. It is fairly fresh right now, it was rebuilt less than 80,000 km ago, and i am thinking about doing some work to it to keep it that way.

I haven't got intentions of making huge power with this truck, max would be a CAI, Smarty JR, boost fooler, and 4" strait pipe. The truck will tow about 20 times a year, between hay wagons, land scape / dump trailers, and my 78 Chev on 38.5's, never anything more than 9000 lbs.

I have looked into ATS and NADP tranny's, but i know a guy who does unbelievable work with transmissions. Is there advantage to just buying parts? can i build a reliable transmission with a deep pan, valve body, torque and some different clutch packs cheeper than buying a complete one? im just not sure, auto trannys in diesels are completely new to me, any input is greatly appreciated! Cheers!:c:

yes, if you do the tranny rebuild right, and use good aftermarket parts right the tranny will be just as good as a tranny bought from one of the big name companies.
