New looking for guidance on newer diesel
 

From the north west here,

and im looking for a newer diesel 2010 newer

Looking for Crew cab, long box, possibly dually -

will be towing with it 90% of the time, but only in the 5k range,

I dont need the dually for weight obviously just like the look etc..


Now the question is whats my best option im looking to do some long hauls wa to az and lots of local trips to the lake " towing 24 foot boat " ..

so millage is a priority along with all the other goodies,, willing to chip and mod to achieve more power and better millage ..

So if you could chose anything out there and try to meet some of these criteria which one would it be...

ive heard of people getting 25mpg in a big truck and low as 8mpg , " Cousin apparently picked up a dually 3500 extended cab 2012 and claims 8mpg all the time, towing or not towing"


anyhow looking for advice on a rig to give me decent millage while pulling a light load, " and looking good doin it" lol

With all the mew emissions on diesel pickups your mileage wont be that great only way to fix that is delete it add intake exhaust chip and gauges for starters and that voids your warranty on a 25k + truck.

I keep seeing the " Delete it" comment what exactly are we deleting? just pulling Cats? and programming or ?? what else is there to it..?

Deleting is pulling the EGR and the DPF on most trucks.

Ive been reading up a lot on the Dodge 10 and newer and hear the smog protection stuff really messes with the motor, soot build up etc, and milage sucks.. Is the same across the board for Chev and ford as well ?? or how does that go??

all of them do have tons of emission things. im not sure which one is worse but so far im not impressed with any of them... the 6.7 cummins is pretty similar to the 5.9, and with the right mods can be made just as reliable. the ford 6.7 is just too new to tell because in fact it WAS made by ford... we all know how that goes. :w2:

and as far as the duramax, i dont really do much research on them nor have we ever owned a duramax so i couldnt answer fairly. but if i were you id look around the 2004-2007 era's. still emissions stuff just not as much.

If you don't want to deal with the dpf/egr crap,you could look at a little older rig.

The 6.7 powerstroke for me has been one hell of a truck and it is 100% stock. It is a new engine but really so far so good.

I think the 6.7 cummins will be better once they start using urea.

As far as dually vrs non dually, I see 2 negatives. 1. you don't fit in a car wash.
2. You loose a little fuel milage because of the weight and wind drag.
