Case 580 Super M
 

Howdy. I work for a Case construction dealer and we have a problem with one and i need some good diesel heads to help us.

the symptoms: NO BALLS
23-2400 WOT put any type of load on it takes it down 1450- 1500. new injection pump(we installed it) and timed, 1100hrs on engine, wastegate on turbo is wired shut, put 20psi to aneroid on IP and it raised it to maybe 1600 under load.

Also what i dont understand is IT DOESNT SMOKE AT ALL. only on start up like any diesel. no blue no black not anything. we took muffler and air box off, still nothing turbo is singing away but nothing.

Cody....yer not gettin the fuel to it

you may have some kinna restriction in the tank pickup or the screan in the line b4 the filter

no smoke =no fuel

are the exhaust temps reading the same at all cyl's? the injectors might be slightly clogged making it where it supplies only enough fuel to hold that rpm under a load..... not an entirely clogged injector just a slightly restricted one or two or a few..... have you checked the fuel filter? dumb question but i had to ask.... cut open the old one and see what is in there (assuming it's like the one on a dodge) that could show some issues...... i'm just thinking outloud here i am by no means a guru on these things.....

well on the account of fuel, it calls for it to have 6-8psi of fuel PSI. it has 9 before and after filter. we even added another electric pump paralell, adding another 6psi and nothing.

we arent that high tech of a shop to have any special tools for testing temperatures. since we threw on a prolly $1800 (case price) pump may as well throw injectors at it. we done ran out of ideas.

well today we put the muffler back on it. today even without it when u put it in gear and put the loader to the relief-up it brings it down to idle when ur at WOT with pedal. from 2450rpm no load, to 950-1000 full load AND NO SMOKE!!!!!! we found the timing of pump was .1mm advanced, ooooo big deal. so we changed it to spec and nothing. we r waiting to see what case says but they r slow. so i thought i may as well post u guys some more bout it. let me know. unfortunately, the owner of the backhoe is a real nice guy and it always happens to the nice guys.

well as i said in 2 posts above, it has plenty of both PSI and flow. checked both through a flow meter. not sure what the measurements were but it really shot up there when we added the other pump, and was above specs before. Also no pressure drop AT ALL. not even a fluctuation.

Some people who work here think compression, but the engine only has 1100hrs and if one cylinder was low on compression, it would smoke. ill check the temps with an infrared gun and see what happens but that wont be till wednesday cuase we r closed till then, and were busy round here with other machines.

this may sound really dumb... but if this condition occurred quickly... (not a build up over time... Maybe check the Fuel cut off valve and make sure that it is open all the way....

well guys thanks for the tips, we pulled the injectors today.
this is how it turned out, pop test, and spray hole count
#1 Good 3
#2 Good 4
#3 Good 4
#4 Good 6


so of course the customer didnt want to replace the #4 injector so we replaced 1-3 and oh my god it runs like a raped ape only goes down to 2200 under load.

we kept new pump on and hopefully Case pays for warranty on it. What we think happened is when the engine ran away something got sucked into IP and then made its way to injectors and clogged them. just an idea.
