Spare Tire Removal
Hey guys,
Im out in the field with another guy and he has a 2008 Silverado 1/2 ton. He has a flat tire and we have tried everything but cannot get the spare tire to drop... We have made sure the rod is lined up, but there is a spring loaded deal under the tire and we can tell if there is anything that has to be done to it, but just turning the winch rod is not working.... Any suggestions...-27C and tired of laying on my back under it!! Thanks |
this must be a Chevy thing.....look in the operators manual to see what it says??????
|
Yeah...thought of that but he left it at home...was studying about the new truck last night...we are about 2.5 hours from the book right now...lol

some times rust builds up and make them sticky.
did you try laying on yer back and kicking it? try to shock it loose. it's probably just stuck a bit. |
The truck is about 6 days old, not rusty and yea Ive kicked the poop out of it!!
|
I dunno......sounds like the winch rod is turning but it aint engauged???
put the turn handle in then see if ya hafta push it in harder to engauge it??? |
Make sure that the rod is all the way in and its in the pilot hole. it should lower down when it is properly engaged, and make sure that you are using the right tip too
|
Brad, like everyone said, check and make sure the rod is pushed at the way in. There is a plastic guide sleeve that the rod initially engages which will turn. Push the rod a little further to engage the gear drive.

?? any luck?

You only use 2 rods, not all 3. The larger square end goes into the tire hoist, the lug wrench get attached to the smaller square end. Then rotate counter-clock wise.
