Duramax Swap?
Hey guys, I have an '89 Chevy R3500 2wd Flatbed Dually. It currently has a 454 gas engine in it. Im curious about finding and reliable Duramax engine to put in it. Few questions I have are: Will it fit? Will my same 4 spd tranny bolt up? And what is the "common" price for a pull-out engine(and tranny) if needed. Any help would be greatly appreciated and Thank you in advanced for any advice! :humm:

It would take quite a bit of work in electronics. I don't know if you're a die hard Duramax guy but a 6BT swap would be much easier in this platform and it has been done many times before.

6BT would be the best choice. It's been done a 1000 times for a reason.....it just works.

I just sold my '91.5 Dodge 12v.. the whole reason i bought that truck was for the engine swap into my chevy. Im leaving for the military in May, so these plans arent a very high priority. If i went with a Cummins, over Duramax, I would go with the 2nd gen 12v simply because of the P-pump. would you use the factory Chevy tranny or find an NV4500 or i believe the other is an NV5600...

Id go with an NV trans just so you have overdrive! The 4 speed doesnt go so well on the highway..... I had one in a 1/2 ton
