2007 GMC Sierra 2500 Duramax LMM
 

I currently own a 2006 Ford F-350 6.0L Lariat. 112,000miles. I am the second owner and owned it for 4years and have had no problems with the truck (knock on wood). The mechanic that works on the truck for me is a Ford man and he worships the 7.3L. Everytime I take my truck in for an oil change he warns me that I should trade it in. He thinks I need to buy a newer '05-'10 Duramax or Cummins. Everything I read about the Ford 6.0L says that I am headed for costly problems. I drive about 25,000 miles per year but I would like a truck that I know is going to last. I work in construction and occasionally haul stuff in the bed. A dealer has run across a truck for me that is a 2007 GMC Sierra 2500 Duramax LMM with only 35,000miles on it. He wants $32,000 for it and said that he would give me $20K for my Ford. Sounds like a great deal but I have never had problems with my Ford and I would be switching based on my mechanics opinion.

as far as I can tell the 06-07 chevy is the most trouble free.

is the truck under warrenty? how much longer?

there are sme guys who get some 6.0's with no problems, not all of them break like you hear all the time on the internet. the international heui platform is very reliable in general, the 7.3 lasts a long time with just filter and oil changes, the 6.0 would to but there are some design flaws on certain engine components that reduce its reliability unfortunately.

05 and up dmax are very reliable. the only issue which is very rare is on the 05's the injector harness can cause, but that can be fixed in your own easily. the LMM is just like the 06-07 models, but with a DPF on it, engine wise. no issues with those engines.

if your going to be driving it on construction sites, i would recommend investing $100 in some tie rod sleeves, to help from bending any tie rods. honestly the only time i bent one was mudding extremely hard. the stock tie rods are thin, but taking the right precautionary steps like the sleeves will take care of the front end problems everyone claims to be horrific. with the ifs the ride is smooth, the truck itself is nice, especially the lmm the interior is pretty sweet and the whole truck inside and out offers a comfortable ride.

a dodge truck will also do well, the 4wd dodge has more ground clearance and also with the cummins there is no major problems that come along with it either. it is a SFA so the ride can be a bit rougher and myself personally im not a fan of the interior, i always have to sit in the back seat before i buy any vehicle.

both are two good trucks to pick from. and it sounds like you have a unicorn for a 6.0. :tu:

The best all around Dmax to get is an 06-07 with the LBZ motor. No DPF only a cat the most HP of the non-dpf trucks and the best turbo mouth piece with injection harness issues solved. The truck you guy has is a great truck it just has that damn dpf that robs fuel however that being said if you drive 25k a year your spending more time driving and doing as much around town so it will perform better than a PTA mom driving for carpool to school or to get groceries and back.

Its not a bad truck at all and I feel you would enjoy the Chevy for load hauling and towing etc for your work. If it was me I would do the trade if he is going to give you 20k for the 6.0L.

I have and 07 gmc duramax,my eighth digit in the vin is a D,what motor is it,is it good or will it be prone to some of the issues I read about the early lbz .I just bought it and really have no idea what all the motor I.D is all about.
