Is This The END?

My stepson texted me today and asked me if 2011 is going to be the end of Chevrolet producing a truck that contains a diesel engine. I said I didn't know anything about it, but I felt that it would be a pretty stupid move on Chevy's part to discontinue the Duramax line.
:argh: :s:
Can Any1 answer my stepsons question, IS THIS THE END OF CHEVROLET / DURAMAX combo?

Not in the least, expect more and better diesel powerplants from Chevrolet:yeah:
Gasoline is the past!!!

HELL NO! lol. i think this is the first time i have ever seen chevy push hard to market thier diesel. i swear i have seen the commercial for the new duramax at least 3 times a night, and i dont watch more than 2 hours of t.v. a night. Literally the Duramax is at its peak, it has never been better. Chevy has taken all past problems in to consideration when they made the 2011. LOL There is a reason it has been name the #1 diesel truck of 2011 from more than 1 critic...i.e DIESEL POWER MAGAZINE, MOTOR TREND, 8 LUG MAGAIZINE, ECT...... I cant wait to see what chevy has up thier sleeve for 2012.

I LIVE AND DIE BY THE BOW TIE!!!!!

How long before we see 500 factory HP? Its jumped from 310 to 397 in only 6 years :humm:

BullyDogJason 02-26-2011 02:42 AM

nope.. there is nothing out there that can replace the power of the diesel

just because new emissions standards are being set does not mean it will be the end of diesels

I agree. Diesels easily command the 3/4 ton and 1 ton market, I dont see any way possible manufacturers will cut out that $5k option.

You havent been able to get the diesel option for $5K in a decade or two.The LML motor option is $7195 and the Allison trans you MUST also get is $1200 extra, thats just short of $9K.And I have found the Diesel upgrade is one thing they dont like to discount, over the years a free diesel motor and trans is a discount I must get to wile dealing with salesman when buying new or no deal.I got $9875 discount on my 09 3500 but worked real hard to get there.

Proves my point even more. They like all that extra money they're getting on our diesel 3/4 tons and 1 tons, heck thats part of the reason we dont have 1/2 ton diesels right now. They're scared it would cut down on the sales of the more expensive 3/4 and 1 tons.

I highly doubt you'll see anything new for 2012. They put too much effort into redesigning their engine for 2011 to change it a year later.

They also cost more to produce than 1/2 tons. It's a question of how much money they can convince people to pay. 3/4 and 1 ton trucks are used for work and many people need them bad enough to pay up. The 1/2 segment is more for people who just want a truck to have a truck or use it for very light work. People aren't willing to pay as much for something like that.

Although with 1/2 tons reaching 40k pretty easily that probably doesn't apply anymore.

Gm doesnt want to take sales away from the heavy duty truck market thats probably the biggest reason now.
