fuel filter change
Good Morning,
I am new here and have a specific question. Do any of you have any tips on changing the fuel filter, ('05 Duramax) and more to the point, how to keep the large o-ring gasket in place while spinning on the new filter? I have always done my own filter changes and always struggle with this part. Any ideas or suggestions would be great!! Thanks, Steve |

i buy the WIX filter and haven't had a problem yet, they hold the o-ring snugly :c:

i also use some petroleum jelly and just smear it in the crack where the oring sits and push it donw in there tight. it will stay. just be remember to disconnect the wire on the bottom, that way u dont twist it all up when u take the filter off. sometimes they are very tight and if you have to put pliers on the plastic bottom piece, be careful they break easy

I havn't had problems with my O-ring, but i did take out the fender plastic panel from inside the fender and everything was right there to work on... I used an oil filter wrench (the ones that tighten down on round items) and some 7" angled needle nose pliers... it took about 10 mins. to change the filter and about 15 mins in dis/assembly... Remember to fill the new filter with diesel before installing it... It's pretty simple actually, Good Luck :tu:

why refill the new filter?? thats just a pain in the butt and makes a mess. thats the whole reason they have that little screw on top of the housing next to the hand pump. put the filter on, crack that screw loose, pump it up and down a few times until fuel squirts out and tighten the screw. done .

the new slimmer composite design is actually very nice to use, it was a breeze to install from the top, took me 15 mins:rocking:
