Squeaking from drivetrain? Haynes or Repair Manual?

I have an 03 Chevy ext cab long bed 2wd and one i first start moving i get a squeaking from the driveline. I had the Guys at Eastern Offroad check into it when the replaced the stock shock with some Bilesteins and they said it was comming from the driveline... Any thoughts? :argh:Also is there an aftermarket repair manual for the Duramax? i didnt get the specific diesel book when i bought my truck from the dealer? :bat: Thanks

I think that's a 2 piece driveshaft, check the carrier bearing on the driveshaft. Push up and down on the driveshaft and see if the rubber is come on the carrier bearing.

Next place to look will be the front wheel bearings.

Noise from drivetrain

it is a two piece Driveshaft, it has some kind of rubber flex over right before the mid mount crossmember... the driveshaft doesnt move at all... and its comming from the rear of the truck any other thoughts?

Could be as simple as a dry u-joint. You can pull the 4 bolts that hold the driveshaft to the rearend, pop the driveshaft out and move the u-joints around and feel for any rough spots. Pull the 2 caps off and see if they are dry or is the needle bearings are messed up.

*Just to be sure we are talking about the same thing from my previous post, the center piece that attaches to the frame crossmember is the carrier bearing. That rubber around the driveshaft is very common to come apart and start making noises. Just make sure it's not worn OR looks brand new. Someone may have just replace it (or even the u-joints) and may not have done it right.*

Can you bounce up and down on the rear of the truck and make it squeek?

drivetrain squeak

If they are dry is there a zirk fitting for a grease gun? :humm: No squeak when i bounce the truck only when rolling at low speed under 10 mph after that i dont hear it.

If they are stock origional u-joints, then no, there is no zerk. If they've been replaced, then maybe, depends on the brand that was installed.
