Mufflers and Performance

I am looking at putting dual exhaust on my truck in the next week. Any ideas as to a good muffler? I am new to diesels and have no idea what is out there and what is good or not. How will the more open exhaust effect my turbo? Performance? Mileage? Thanks!!!

Aero turbine mufflers are nice. Aero Performance Exhaust. heard a lot of good things about these. No real world proof on a Dmax since I own a cummins but i'm sure some one here can help you out more:tu:

MBRP Cool Duals is a nice setup too. They're all relatively similar in terms of performance.

i just installed the magnaflow 4" ss exhaust last night. i was thinking i might delete the muffler later but then after driving around today i feel happy the way it is. i've got that cool turbo whistle alot more noticeable, the exhaust note is loud enough, and my egt's are way lower.

striaght pipe it. tear everything off, put a cheap pipe on and dump it out the back, then spend your money on a good intake. truck will sound cooler and get better mpgs. just my .02. if you don't like the "open" sound i would go with a magnaflow. i have duals on mine, muffler and cat MIA, and i kinda wish i only had one pipe and tip.

Ive got a magnaflow system and love it ..... I have the LB7 engine so its alot more throaty. Straight piping is super annoying to me ....

ok but are you guys running cat back or turbo back? thanks:humm:

K50 11-27-2009 10:34 AM

To keep it legal depending on where you live you'll have to run cat-back. (i.e. if they do smog testing)

On the LB7 Duramax I should be able to run turbo back because there was no cat on my truck when it was produced...

If I'm wrong someone will quickly let us know.

cumminsdad08 12-13-2009 03:05 PM

No you'll be fine. You don't need to do anything...but opening the exhaust will allow you to open up the throttle a little more by keeping the egts down. Just watch your tranny if you go more than 60-80hp above stock power levels.

Banks makes a very nice set-up (duals), but I think you pay more for the name than the performance end. I have had both Banks, MBRP I would recommend MBRP good performance, sound. Not to mention the price!!!!
