Duramax Exhaust Question
 
My Bro has a 2008 GMC Sierra 2500. He bent the exhaust pipe by backing into a car, and it pushed in the exhaust. Where it is bent to go over the axle, I think it is bent there because it does not stick out as far as it did. It also bent the rear-most hanger. The rubber hanger will not even reach the steel hanger from the frame.

My question is can he just go to a muffler shop and replace the section from just behind the muffler to the end of the exhaust pipe, or does he need to go to GM to get the OEM replacement? It shouldn't effect the warranty but he is in Canada.

Any good muffler shop will be able to easily replace that section of pipe.

I realize that, but I read on a post that an exhaust other than the stock exhaust will throw codes. Is that just ignorance or stupidity? I don't see how it could but I want to make sure it doesn't before I tell my Brother what to do.

Thats not true. Removing the CAT or DPF will throw codes but not replacing a section of pipe.

ya as long as you are not replacing the muffler and taking out the cat you won't thru any codes and the dealer shouldn't void any warranty as long as they use the same size pipe

yes but the factory stupid ugly tip has to stay on i was told for insurance purposes that if ur truk burns to the ground they could blame it on the regen or sum crap cause it didnt have the open back for air flow
thats just wat i was told but mines goin byby soon as i build a 5 inch system or a 7inch single stack

That actually is true because it is used for scavenging the heat out of the pipe during regen. RTToys just went through the DMAX school on the new DPF systems and they showed 1100* pre and post turbo during regen. There was enough heat coming out of the tail pipe to light a stick on fire. The scavenging tip must be on there to extract the heat.

Nope, just have them cut out the bend section and bend a new one, then weld the tip back on and you're good to go. :up2: Of course, now is a good opportunity to straight pipe it. :w2:
