What Tuner Are You Running All DMAX?

Let's talk tuners and the pros and cons that you have personally seen with them.

I ran the predator and the hypertech in my LB7. My first diesel truck was the LB7, I started with the hypertech and liked it quite a bit for a while. Then I wanted more as do most, so I used the predator and liked it much better.

I ran the predator, quadzilla and the hypertech in my LLY. I started with the hypertech and I hated it, I thought the power and MPG increase was minimal at best. Went to the quad and it took too long to load and the truck shifted like crap not to mention to much smoke for my taste. I finished with the predator because it seemed to be the smoothest shifting of the 3, economy seemed to be decent and the smoke although it was heavier not obnoxious. I should have just started with the predator and saved my money on the quad and hypertech but I figured I would give the others a try.

I am running the PPE in my LMM, and I really like it. I would try the EFI but I am a LOT scared to try to program the thing myself. I am sure I could figure it all out but I just fear messing up a good thing.

i have the quad on my truck, only thing i don't like is that it takes forever to switch tunes

redneckbuckeye 05-06-2008 06:22 AM

I am running ppe hot+2 and like it very much , I have never ran anything else.

I'm running EFI right now but have used PPE and Bullydog also. I liked the PPE alot, great economy and nice shifts. The bullydog however had terrible economy and crappy shifting at best.

Alli_Gator 05-06-2008 06:37 PM

I have ran almost all tuners in my truck, Edge Juice with Attitude, Edge Evolution Bully Dog Triple Dog and PMT, Superchips, PPE and now run a 500+ EFI tune.

I believe the PPE is the best handheld tuner in the market place. It has clean shifts, clean tuning, big power on higher levels and has many features unavailable on other tuners. It can put your trans in fast learn, datalog, check balance rates...so on and so forth. Best bang for your buck in my book

EFI live is a great tool, and is the best option for competitive racers and sled pullers, but if you don't have time to fool with making and testing tunes, it is not the best option for you. If you don't have time or knowledge to make tunes, then you are just buying someone elses tuning like you would have with PPE anyway.

Just my $.02

quad stealth 2 good power

rush 05-07-2008 09:39 AM

PPE or Efi Live.

jdugie123 05-07-2008 03:14 PM

use to have the hypertech first liked it then found a good deal on a banks sixgun liked it also but needed a little more so i stacked it with the hypertech well now i am using efi live and love it i haven't had the time to mess with tunes yet mostly because of school but what i have done is great i have made tunes that i think are comparable to my old hypertech so i am getting there

Popatop 05-07-2008 06:56 PM

Ive tried them all, but PPE is by far the best. Unless you want to Spend the time with EFI.

ar077 06-01-2008 10:33 PM

I want a tuner that puts out minimal smoke (zero, if possible). How is PPE in that department?

if you want something like that get banks...PPE smokes, but power wise it beats the socks off of banks.

only thing about banks it keeps the power to a safe limit, and most people want more than that so people look for something else.

TCU Fan 06-01-2008 10:41 PM

PPE for the LBZ is going to smoke but all of them are. Predator does not put out a ton of smoke and it is a pretty decent programmer, I like mine.

Oilfield_Mafia 06-02-2008 12:18 AM

I run the Bully Dog Triple Dog on my LBZ, its the only programmer Ive ever ran on it.. I have been told SO MANY times to get the PPE, and I am in the market for one this fall after I get my other mods done.. The Bully Dog for me is "okay" Tow/Econ tune is slightly more power than stock, no smoke, and no mpg gain.. Performance tune has the best mpg, and very little if any smoke, you have to really mash on it and it will just puff.. Extreme Tune drops me back down to 12-15 mpg depending on the skinny pedal.. and makes quite a bit of smoke and good power.. Like I said, I am selling my Bully Dog, and going to go with a PPE when I find the right deal.. I want more power for some occasions, and more tunes.. I hear the only downside to the PPE is no option for dash display? Someone please correct me if thats wrong.

:rocking:

2500HeavyDuty 06-02-2008 12:40 AM

yeah, ppe doesn't have an "outlook monitor" or switchable tuning on the fly.

but thats what gauges are for anyway. they are more accurate.

redneckbuckeye 06-02-2008 04:58 PM

You guys that run a chip with multi switchable tunes notice any problems with changing tunes on the fly and the trans not having time to relearn the added power?

2500HeavyDuty 06-03-2008 03:40 AM

ive heard that people mess up their trans more with stitching tunes from going to economy to race because the transmission hasn't had time to learn

dozerboy 06-03-2008 06:08 PM

Its not so bad if you train your tranny with the Tow Haul mode on for the race mode and econo without it on.

ruffmanatv 06-07-2008 03:08 PM

Running the Hypertech on my 06 LLY. Have no complaints so far.:U::choochoo:
