Duramax or Cummins?

Hey guys,
Been wanting to buy a truck for a while now and i do not know which one to buy. my real question is whether to buy a gas or diesel truck. To be honest I’m probably not going to tow anything unless I buy a boat sometime in the future. I really want a diesel truck because in my opinion a diesel truck is a real truck. I know that diesel mpg than gas but other than that I don’t know very much. I have had my eye on a duramax for some time now with the Allison but the Cummins motor is pretty hard to beat from what I have seen. -any advice much appreciated thanks

Diesels do get better MPG and have a longer life expectancy than a gas motor would, if you plan on towing at all I would get a diesel.

If you were talking motor vs motor I would say get a Cummins, unfortunately its not jsut motors, with that Cummins you get bad electronics and tranny's plus a harsher ride.

Duramax's have their issues as well (LB7's injectprs)(LLY's overheating prone when towing), ect. There is no perfect truck but I think a 60/07 Duramax LBZ will be pretty darn close. 6 speed allison, pretty much any tiny little bugs worked out of the motor Good to go...

Personally I wouldnt buy a newer one unless you planned on ripping all the smog crap off (DPF, ect). Where I live in CA they make you smog diesels so a new one and tearing all that off isnt an option...

yea unfortunately my 12v is attached to a dodge. but the newer truck frames are supposed to be a real step up. i havent really been in a new truck aside from my buds lb7 sierra, and it is sweet as hell, but it also has like 15k in the motor and tranny :scare2: if i had that kinda dogh to drop i think my 350K mile truck would be bitchen as well :dang:

I have at least that into mine...:argh:

from the outside you wouldn't be able to tell, but she has decent power and is a very reliable daily driver...

most of that is in mods, but there are quite a bit of "fixes" as well junk Dodge front ends! (not like the IFS front ends are any better!)

Here's an old thread but worth reading I think - https://www.dieselbombers.com/genera...werstroke.html

Diesel. Even if you dont tow its good to have, they can idle for a long time and not over heat (helps if you live in a area with lots of traffic or in a area in which you would need to evacuate for a hurricane

and they just sound so sexy :w2:

my truck last Saturday (8-10-13) at the dyno day.

just experimented with different injector durations and load levels on the dyno...2nd run in video was over 10,000lbs of load on the dyno in 6th gear. last runs were in 5th gear (1:1) with 6,800lbs load on the dyno. (stock truck weight)
