Engine Light

Have an 08 3500 Duramax w/Allison. Was coming down a steep grade and shifted to manual 1st gear, (not towing). RpM's were under 2k and engine light and message came on" low engine output". Shifted out of manual and message went off but engine light is still on. Any ideas?
