New DPF housing

Have ya seen those big plastic box;s under the new 2012 dmax. duallys?

Its called the DPF , anyhow, customers have been complaining its too low and sticks way out, really looks kinda silly.. there is a way to put another cat on there..do you know anything about this yet? its pretty new..
Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF)
Johnnys company just got three new ones.. first thing they noticed was this big plastic box which houses this DPF

Um, why is this in the Tech Submission area, and not under a Dmax thread?

Other then that, I've taken a course on those through John Deere on those economy killers. They are a two part system, a Diesel Oxydation Catalyst and Diesel Particulate Filters. DPF catches, DOC makes the heat to burn it out.

No Jenn I havent seen these plastic boxes that house the DPF.....sounds like trouble to me

moved thread as Ryan suggested:humm:

also changed thread title to DPF housing

there is not "box" that houses a DPF.... I believe that is the DEF(diesel exhaust fluid) tank, the DPF hasn't changed since the 07's, I do agree that the DEF tank hangs low however, but it's no lower than the frame so it really shouldn't be an issue for normal use:tttt:

Oh here it is......I was just talking to someone through pm on this.

Theres 3 2012 3500 dmax duallys ordered, they all will be hauling trailers with jet fuel that follow the helicopters the the work site.

There is places they go that could damage that big ass box.
:)
So my question was when it gets taken off. will it void the warrenty..:humm:

The thing with those seems to be more work to up keep it then its worth.. If it fills up it wont let you go past 55k untill you empty it.
They freese in the winter.... you have to thaw it out before you can go anywhere.
You need to empty it every 5000k. like an oil change. and refill it with a exhaust filler..:humm: not to mention poor gas milage..

BriteWhiteRam 05-30-2012 09:28 PM

actually they get better mileage than trucks that are several years older, its no different than putting in window washer fluid, and it is really no more expensive, not that big a deal really:w2:

The DEF your talking about ( not DPF ) is a good thing , it makes regens occur much less. It gets 3 to 5 more MPGs than the 2010 and under years. There is a skidplate you can get to cover it but removing it will void warrenty.

dmaxjenn 05-31-2012 02:06 PM

Where do you get the skid plates?

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

its 20 bucks a jug here........ but its more expensive to take it off.:humm:

Truckstops around here are starting to get DEF pumps installed, availability of bulk DEF lowers the price from what I've seen.:rocking:
