but do you understand why the older diesels got better mpg? not because they're mechanically injected and clattery. because they didn't make the same amount of power.

if I detuned my 06 duramax from 360hp/650tq (stock) edge on level 1 +30/60 (idk) that gets me 20mpg down to the levels of my first gen cummins that got 22mpg 160hp/400tq stock but with the fuel turned up a bit so prolly closer to 200hp/500tq

so.. if I dump half as much fuel in the duramax to bring it to the level of the old cummins.. would i gain the difference of 2mpg? or a hell of a lot more

I would compare to a ford for you but the only one I ever had was a 6.9NA motor, and my friends 96 powerstroke only gets 14-15mpg best so it'snot really a fair comparison there.

i get 18-22mpg with my rig and it makes 415rwhp...... hmmm thought these newer diesels didn't get good mileage??

Rattley old diesels are way too annoying to drive and try to have a conversation with anyone in the vehicle with you, I have an old mercury capri 5L with glasspacks if I want to be deaf and and have a headache, I'm quite content with my quieter Duramax thanks

To the fellow who commented on the pre-injection, that Idea has been around for quite a while, and I'm pretty sure that it was Bosch who came up with the technology, not Mercedes, with High pressure common rail and solenoid/piezo actuated injectors they are able to achieve more pre-injection events, with a finer spray which allows for better combustion and less rattle, its all about controlling the combustion event, and the new technology allows for that precise control, older mechanical injected engines just can't do that

Theyre not near as quiet with a 5" turbo back

Helped put one on a brand new 6.7 the other day, everything deleted off, H&S BlackMaxx, and an EGR delete too. I want one
