Engine Codes - Fuel Rail Pressure

I am a member of many different diesel sites. Out of all of them your site is the best for finding out what codes our engines are throwing. Thank you for being the most informative.

I am throwing a code for low fuel rail pressure. Can I clean the sensor or what should I try to remedy this myself? With the mods I have it takes a full day to put my truck back to stock to be able to take it into the stealership.

Thanks,
Michael

thanks for the kudos on the site......we are all doing it together as a team..........including you to bro

I dont have yer answers but we do have some sharp Dmax dudes here that will help :rocking:

we need to know more info on yer truck, like modifications that may be using more fuel???? fill out yer signature with detailed info to help diagnose issues

Welcome To The Site Dude

When was the last filter change, and is the code a p0093?

hoghunter 11-02-2009 12:03 PM

I have a 2007.5 LMM with a Quadzilla Tuner DPF Delte and a 5" turbo back exhaust. I also have a FASS Lift pump with 95 psi. These are the only performance mods that I have done. I run B100 in my truck. I have been making it for 3 1/2 years and haven't had any issues until now. I have 48K on this truck. The code is 0087. I threw 4 of these codes on the way home. The truck computer says the fuel filter still has 60% life left.

I had read that you could clean the sensor and I should have bookmarked it because now I can't find it. What about shimming the sensor? I found an article about this and will go back and read the whole thing later.

The question is - does this sensor control the pressure output or only tells you when it's too low? I bought a set of the factory repair manuals and I guess it's time to crack them open.

Any input will be appreciated!!

you lift pump is set at 95 psi? it should be set around 10-12 psi at idle.

a p0093 code is related to the FPRV popping and the fix for that would be shimming the regulator. It pops open relieve the pressure when it reaches "unsafe" levels. If you had a bad sensor it truck might not even run at all.

a p0087 would be related to the Fuel control actuator on the cp3.

The repair manuals that we bought say that a p0087 is Fuel Rail Pressure Too Low. I will read up on the Fuel Control Actuator? What is a cp3? Our manual doesn't list a p0093 . I was told the FASS lift pump was 95 psi but I could be mistaken. I will have to look for paperwork on this as well.

95 GPM not PSI

2500HeavyDuty 11-02-2009 02:29 PM

I call it Fuel control actuator, But it is also called an FPR or Fuel pressure regulator.

hoghunter 11-02-2009 03:55 PM

GPM sounds much better:argh:

The manual says you have to remove a lot of parts to get to this regulator. As anyone replaced theirs before?

You have alot more in the way, but it should give you an idea. Is it still under warrenty?

shim the fuel rail, if your running a tuner and lift pump, this is a must.....

BLACKDX 11-10-2009 07:33 PM

I would change all filters for the fuel system including the fass might be a bad batch of fuel. I have had some strange stuff happen with the stock filter , it messis with the shifting and over all performance of the eng. This has happened with new filters after a few miles. This would be where I would start. Mine with the PPE and defueling for shifts starts acting up after bout 50% life on stock filter.

Tyler@MPF 11-11-2009 07:21 AM

I agree with these guys, change both filters, and shim the fuel rail. The Stealth 2 demands plenty of fuel and is capable of tripping that CEL.

I wouldn't rely on the DIC to tell you when to change the filter. I believe the ecm goes by mileage not actual filter life. I would be willing to bet you have a filter that is getting a little tired. I have had filters junk within a couple thousand miles.

I have an 06 LBZ with ppe hot2, intake, full 5inch exhaust, boost controler and the fass 200gph and it runs right at 15psi and no matter if the programmer is turned all the way up or if the truck is stock, it always pops the low fuel pressure p0087 code when my truck builds around 20psi of constant boost. It will pop the code much sooner when the truck is building around 40psi but thats not very often. I was thinking the regulator was sticking on the cp3 but it is not. Any other ideas? :argh:

2500HeavyDuty 11-15-2009 07:40 PM

it could be the FPRV popping, it would need shims to fix that.

hoghunter 11-15-2009 07:43 PM

must have been a bad fuel filter. I changed it out and all is good now. the old filter was still at 95% so only a few thousand mi on it.
what this about shimming the fuel rail? how do i do it? what do i need? should i have someone else do it? who?
thanks to all

yes its still under warranty but its alot of work to make it dealership friendly and i wanted to take care of this prob myself. you know you have to pay to play.
