hate to say it but....

i have been lookin and lookin and think i should try a duramax, i have just over 220k on my good ol' 7.3 she is still runnin good as ever, and the 6.4 keeps throwing fits and i'm sick of it, whats the pros and cons on the LBZ? and what kind of power can you put out before you need to start looking into transmissions, etc etc... input is much appreciated :c:

Pros:
Stronger bottom end than earlier Dmaxs
Beefed up tranny and 6th gear added
Better injection pump

Cons:
Weak pistons
the usual emmission issues (PVC, EGR, and the Cat)

I've seen some put down 500+HP on dynos with stock injectors, turbo and tranny.
But I wouldn't recommend it. A safe power level would be around 400-450HP and be careful with the tranny. 500 and up is where you can drop alot of coin on your truck.

To slow the transmission from burning up. Add a transgo jr. to increase the transmission power capability.

I'll stop there. I can go on and on about this. Try to keep it short.

i can fix the emissions :w2: but about where do the pistons like to explode? and i would be willing to drop some coin on the transmission

I haven't found an exact level the pistons fail. But they crack dead center inline with the wrist pin. All Dmax pistons fail in the same area. The LB7 and LLYs have better materials than the Asian made ones on the LBZs. A poplular thing to do is install LB7 pistons in a LBZ motor. As far as the tranny goes Mike L. of Inglewood Transissions is the best builder I know of.

how much does one of his transmissions run? or do i want to know LOL

A stage 4 was around $4500. But alot guys say its worth every penny. I've heard of guys coming from NC & TX to have him build there tranny. He can rebuild and install your tranny in same day you drop it off. Most guys use the "Disenyland" trick cause spend the day with the family at DL while the truck gets done. It helps lighten the shock of spending 4k on your truck. lol

LOL that is pretty good idea, might have to try that :w2:
