The LBZ is pretty solid in stock form. They have piston cracking issues when you start to push the hp though. They upgrade the same as anything else except with a Dmax you don't NEED to do injectors right away to make any sort of power. Anything 100hp or more over stock and you'll have trans limp problems.

Says the guy who would probably get waxed by a stock LBZ. :argh:

1985johndeere 07-21-2010 11:38 PM

Yeah yeah, had a stroker, never again, had a badass cummins should of never sold it, but I'm a chevy guy at heart so gonna try a d- max this time

K50 07-22-2010 10:22 AM

'06 is a great year, as far as I've seen they are problem free. Jump on it for sure. '06 had all of the previous issues addressed. Better turbo, injector design, upgraded stronger transmission, no head gasket issues.

LOVE my 06 LBZ, better than my 05 cummins :tu: just watch for oil leaks up front, the damn trans cooler lines have a tendancy to leak:argh:

Probably but I've got 1/4 the cost of a used Duracrap into my truck and it will still be running when the Duracraps are in the junk heap. I'll bet you talked up the 6.2's, and 6.5's before the Duracrap came out didn't ya :moon::moon::moon:

BriteWhiteRam 07-26-2010 08:21 AM

Wana see if you can keep up to this "duracrap"? i plan on keeping mine for a long time to come, just turned 115000miles and going STRONG, about 400hp strong :hellox:

There might be crap in my engine bay but at least it's not sitting in the driver's seat. :moon: Now run along

Like previously posted the 06-07 classic with the LBZ are a good unit. The trans lines tho will need to be addressed. Not a big deal just get a new set made up with different fittings and they'll be good till she is dead..Theres always a few little leaks like the t-case and rear trans output seal, big deal. For Performance wise I guess EFI live then your programmer line lots out there like PPE,EDGE,H&S I'm hearing are real nice too. I know of quit a few with big miles on them, One is a LMM that pulls 5 wheels from the U.S. to Can , it has 250,000 mi with no real problems other than regular maintainence. What is your plans if you do buy it?

Even with an Allison tranny?

BLACKDX 09-18-2010 06:17 PM

You can get away with a lot but theres the 4-5 or 5-6 shift that will limp it if your getting on it.. but there way stronger than the 5 speed.. Just slap a Trango Jr in an you'll be good for 450 an more RWHP..... for a while...:w2:

Transgo will help but the stock converter won't last forever either.

just out of curiosity, I have a lbz 06 & You seem to know your shit, what would I have to do, to the motor for stage 6 on the edge w/ attitude or its good stock??

BriteWhiteRam 10-04-2010 10:32 PM

Need a lift pump, otherwise your gona drain your fuel rail, and your probably gona hurt your trans running that much hp:td:

Do you know the HP on that tune? If its 100 RWHP Your on that line of a lift pump and a TransGo Jr. I was looking and I think that it said that HP .If ya start getting in that 450 RWHP range Its time for a few upgrades,, IMHO..

yamaha4stroke22 10-05-2010 07:29 PM

Ok im good then. I have a ppe lift pump, aftermarket intake and a 4"straight pipe from turbo all the way out the back. The tranny is already slipping need a bulletproof tranny lol I think stage stage 6 is 150 hp

AZLBZ 10-06-2010 11:21 PM

I just bought a 07 Classic LBZ with 200k, when i bought it every thing sounded good but then i came to find out that one of the batteries was crap and my alternator was trying to charge it which caused it to over heat up to 300 degrees F and blow some thing inside probably part of the voltage regulator because it would not put out more then 12v tell she got back up to 300 F and wouldn't keep a stable voltage. Well changed battery and alternator and its all good. Getting about 20mpg when i drove it up from dallas. I was hauling ass too. Quad cab long bed 4x4. Weighed in at 7400 on the cat scale with a full tank of gas.

Got the duramax finally, it has 4" straight pipe cold air intake and efi live, runs like a bad out of hell and the trans slips just a little mainly in higher gears, what are some other upgrades I can do to it besides trans, I plan on getting a built one eventually

congrats on the truck! keep the efi and look into finding a good tuner to help you out unless you feel like tinkering on the computer alot. efi is the top as far as any program for this trucks as of yet. :tu:
