LBZ and "off highway" or Heating oil...??????
 

Hey guys, im debating on getting an LBZ, i can still find them with less then 40K miles. good price and like the old body style. How are the LBZ motors and "dirty" fuel. I ask HYPOTHETICALLY.....(tax man) but i come accross every now and then ehating oil (#2 dyed red) that I used to treat with deisel clean, and filter and keep in an aux tank in my 12 valve and a buddies 7.3 PSD.


How are they Duramax with off high way fuel. Assuming I treated it and added an additional filter off the tank....

Are they very finiky with fuel?

they will run fine with red fuel, just watch out :popo:

I always keep an eye out, and im a LEO.....that can't be good, I don't do it all the time, but sometimes Ill take out a boiler and oil tank to put in a Gas system and Ill end up with 150Gallons of the stuff, So i Used to have a 60G aux tank on my truck, id fill it up, cycle in some Diesel Clean, and then Pump it into the main tank when I needed it. I added an extra filter right off the tank too just to be sure. With a newer motor id prob filter down to 3 Micron.

The 12V ate ANYTHING for fuel, and the 7.3 is just as good, but i know my 6.0 didn't like the stuff. and was wondering how it would hold up.

Thanks for the info....I've always had fords i am in love with the "classic" body style. I used to love the hugeness ( is that a word.....i mean my wife uses it all the time :jump:) of the fords, but was in my buddies 05 CC dmax and the interior is so nice,and the low bed height is a wonderful thing on my aging body. haha

It has ended up in a few of our farm trucks in the past :w2: . The only issues we have had with it is trying to get the system flushed out to where it will pass if the tank gets checked. I don’t think it was ever run more than a 50/50 mix.

All of our portable and bulk tanks have 5 micron filters if it makes a difference. You will also need to keep an eye on you water separator.

Where were at they do tank checks where every they can find 30 or more “work trucks”. To get around this get a locking fuel cap :argh: .

I have a "friend" lets just say for the sake of it. but he will pull right up to the off road tank fill right up at the farm. What he has found is there is no difference except the off road smokes more and gives quite a bit more power. five full tanks or taxed fuel will remove the residue. I dont know how they are anywhere else but maine new hampshire and vermont dont spot pickup trucks dot or not

people like your "friend" are lucky that the farmer doesnt catch them or he may never leave said farm... i know its happened here and i think we can hide a truck and such pretty easy around here... tell your "friend" to stop being a cheapazz and go and BUY his fuel like the farmer had to, oh and BTW dyed fuel is no different than clear, they just add dye to it... hence the name:argh:

Hey there slick.... I would stick to canada. Red dyed fuel or off road fuel usually has a ratio mixed with kerosene, and it is untaxed. You probably wouldn't know about low taxes in Canada.. or and by the way i own the farm you schmuck.

What about the sulfur content of off road fuel??? Is that down to under 15 PPM? That would be my only concern...screwing up all the polution control stuff that comes on the newer trucks and voiding the warranty. I've been driving diesel trucks since '97 and never had any authority check to see the color of the fuel in any of my trucks (New Jersey).

I have heard that too, that the fuel burns hotter and has a chance of burning the cylinder walls, but i have never had a problem nor has anyone i know. I think that it is a easy way to get people scared over using off road...
