steering idler slop

so what parts do i need to fix this sloppy steering on my truck?pass. side tire flops around when on jackstands, i have replaced the idler about 4 months ago with a gm delco, but its shot already. i know someone out there knows how to fix this stock pathetic steering setup, i recall something about replacing certain parts and obviuosly a different idler, i think it had "diesel_ _ _ _ _ _" as the brand name??anyone know what i'm talking about? thanks guys

Install idler and pitman arm supports and never have the problem again :U:

Cognito Pitman and Idler arm supports. The must have upgrade fo

While you are at it, get the HD tie rods and you will deffinantly be done with the ft end.

Cognito Motorsports HD Tie Rod Assembly for 01-09 GM HD Silverado Trucks

Did all that to mine about a year ago (20k miles), even with my monster wheels and tires it's still as tight as a virgin on prom night. :5:

you sure its not the hub bearing thats bad?

mikes454 07-21-2009 06:29 PM

no its notthe bearing because you can watch all the steering rods flop up and down when u move the tire

oh yeah get them braces thst rttoys was talking about, i got some on my truck and steering is still tight after a year

mikes454 07-23-2009 07:03 PM

yeah thats what i need alright.I'm just reluctant to spend another $500-$600 on this sad ifs front end crap when i have a dana 60 sittin in the garage!!!if only there was an affordable straight axle kit out there i could drive a REAL truck again!(and actually go 4x4ing without breaking sh*t everytime!)

2500HeavyDuty 07-23-2009 08:59 PM

4x4ing in a 7000lbs truck is not a good idea to begin with when you think about it, all parts break, with a heavy truck they just break faster

PPE also makes a built set up...... so if it is shot maybe go that way..... another idea that a guy i know did was get the pitman/idler from NAPA... they have grease fittings in the bearings so you can keep it nice a lubed.... that might work well with the cognito supports :humm:
