Question 2006 GMC sierra 2500 HD

i am getting a new truck soon, and i am deciding between a diesel truck or a gas truck. what does it cost per week or month or year, if you could tell me to drive a diesel truck as opposed the gasoline counterpart?
every how many miles do i need to service the truck?
if i got a diesel, how often do i add diesel exhaust fluid to it?
is there any other fluid or additives that i am unaware of that i have to get to keep it running?
i live in Michigan, do I have to plug the heating block in, in winter? and for how long? will it hurt it if i kept it in longer than the time needed?
i am trying to decide what one is the better overall option and what one will yield the most return for me. thank you!
i do have a boat trailer, and i am trying to decide the better option for me, gas or diesel. gas seems to not get as good mpg's
