Safe to add 200hp to stock allison?

I know im a cummins guy,but my cousin has a 2006 lbz and he just put his banks on which adds around 200hp if tuner all the way up!He has a lead foot, but will his tranny be fine or does he need to do mods to it?thank you

Short answer, no.

Will it hold, yes. Will it last, no.

I limped my trans on a 90hp tune. Mind you I made close to 75 passes this year on a 150hp tune.

Mind you I run efi live which ratings are rwhp, not exact but close. I think banks is at the flywheel. Can always try. Worst thing that will happen is he will limp it. Once that happens it will only get easier to limp and require building the transmission.

The guys at Allison in Orlando say "you could run 1000 hp and never hurt that trans"

Cousins tranny already messin up after 3k miles,so find it hard to believe "1000" maybe 450 if you put a block under the pedal!:pca1:

If it could handle 1000hp, stock, I would not need to build my trans, or anyone else for that matter. Will it hold 1000hp? Sure. Will it do for long? Only if your foot is as light as a feather.

Here's the lowdown ,can you run over 400 hp on stock trans ?,yes you can but... How much money do you want to dump into it after you've blown it up .there is a lot of variables to your truck ,miles , hp, driving habits etc .you can slip a stock trans easy with a really good tune.

i think the trick here is, at what RPM are you making this HP? high RPM HP will result in less torque, Low RPM HP results in more torque. sure you can run 1000 HP through a stock Alison 1000 but it would have to be turning pretty fast for the clutch packs not to slip.

the general rule of thumb is the 5 speed can hold around 60 HP over stock and the 6 speed about 90 over before you start to drastically reduce the life of the transmission.

a good tune, like an Efi Live tune made by a reputable tuner will put out much more then what the stock Alison is made for but allows the transmission to last longer then it normally would have. this is because a smart tuner will put the HP in the RPM range where it will do the least damage. dont dump too much fuel down low and keep the transmission out of 5/6 under high HP if you want any life to be left in it when done.

my two cents.
