lbz blowing smoke

I have a stock 2006 durmax lbz 100,000 miles. Yesterday it started to blow thick black smoke ,with no power for about 5 minutes then cleaned up. Took it to local shop to get codes pulled, mass air flow came up. Drove it to work today same problem happened. Read online the egr sticks on these models? should I change the MAF or mess with the EGR. Anyone else had a problem like this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

start cheap and clean the mass air flow first..that should clear up any maf codes..if not then you could need a replacement..as far as the egr...has the trk had the update done on the egr..if not then you should be able to get that done under gm..campaign not shure of the number ...do a vin check it will tell you what was done to the trk...hope this helps...scott...:yeah:

thanks

I bought a new MAF sensor today and it has not done it again. Thanks so much for your help!! I need to clean the EGR next, I heard they get pretty plug up. do I need any gaskets or anything or is it all o-rings? Thanks again

Go get a Sinister delete for that bad boy, and never have another issue with the EGR. I had mine blocked from the time it was new, and recently took it right off. Intake was clean as a whistle. Never an issue with it.

no o-rings that i know of but metal gaskets..because your dealing with high temps....scott:humm:
