i think downgrade? but could be wrong whats done to it?
|
not pointing fingers but i think some people have a bad expirience with something and they then consider it junk. in my opinion all things mechanical and electrical will let you down at some point in time. some llys had headgasket failures due to an early bad design of crimped gaskets instead of riveted gaskets once fixed your good to go. i almost wonder if the gentleman above would think his dodge was junk if his lift pump failed and wiped the inj pump?? if he had no knowledge of that issue.. as stated above everything and anything has some sort of issues

Re: How many here have had a head gasket failure?
I have owned both had an ip go bad and lift pump failure, plus a handfull of trannys in the dodge, the dmaxs that I have owned so far I have had to change the oil and fuel filters that's about it.

Head gaskets
I had to do mine just after it turned 100k.I had a buddy of mine help me and we had it done in about 20-22 hrs. Before i did mine I had it to the dealers twice and they said they didnt find any thing. But then why did it keep pushing antifreeze out of the resivore and the upper hose would feal like a steel pipe after it sat for about 4hrs. When pulled apart we found that the ring around the cylinder on four of them were failing.

Mine were done in 20hrs, just need to know the right people, they are a pain in the butt, however its gotta be done:rocking:
did mine on my own with a bad back, next time if i have to do it id pull the engine out, or lift the cab off. the biggest annoyance is that damn lb7 downpipe, i broke two 12 point sockets trying to get that thing out. some shops drop the trans because its that much of a pain in the ass. |

when I did mine I didnt even pull the turbo, we were able to sneak the intake bolts out, BARELY :yeah: I didn't say that it wasn't a PITA but its much easier to do in the truck than a powerstroke
i didnt pull the turbo out either, but the downpipe isnt a vband clamp on the new models, lb7's have some pain in the ass bolts in them. i pulled the head off with the exhaust and intake manifold on :D |
durn LB7's gotta be the difficult ones ehhhhh???
|
mine just blew its a common problem

Where is a good place to order my hg's ? Do I have to r:yeah:eplace my injected seals as well?
|
I got a dmax with 170000 bone stock with a k&n. I have had no problem other that a alternator, and some u joints. I also use it as a snow plow truck so its been ran good. I think the key to getting this trucks to run forever is to leave them stock. Yea i know that's boring and that's why i have begun my upgrading by ordering exhaust. :jump:

BLOOOOOWN
215000 miles when I bought it and the gaskets are just barely blown, I figured it out when I tried to check the coolant in the morning and it came gurgling out like there was a big bubble of compressed gas in the engine.
Dang it! |
Just had mine done 137000,Headgaskets and waterpump,5 grand at the stealer,Hurt like a SOB,But ya gotta do what ya gotta do:s:
|
Head gaskets done at 125k
I went round and round with the dealer that my head gasket was blown and they kept telling me that there tests say they are fine. One monday morning a buddy of mine helped me tear into it,found 4 of the 8 cylinders were failing right around the ring of the cylinder.I gave him a few bucks and still had almost 3k into it. Oh that included the water pump.Back up and running wednesday after noon.

this thread is so old:tttt:
|
head gasket
anyone take the front fenders off to change the head gaskets
|
136k and I'm just about to replace mine.:argh:
|
The gaskets don't really blow out, they just move around due to aluminum heads, then they start leaking. Even unmodified engines will do it.
|
So....
|
110000 miles and the truck runs like new. 05 3500 2wd dually
