A Cummins Man Needs Some Assistance From Some Chevy Folks
 

hey guys,
i am a cummins man that needs some help and some info from yall. my dad has a '05 chevy 3/4 ton. she has over 100,000 highway miles with no problems whatsoever. a couple weeks ago on a trip from Washington DC back to Texas, we stopped at a gas station for fuel and turned the truck off, when we went to crank it, it would turn over but would not fire up, we used the pump on top of the fuel filter to prime it and it fired right up. well it has been fine until tonight and it has done the same thing, we changed the fuel filter not to long ago so i am assuming it is losing prime. is there a lift pump on a chevrolet like on a dodge or does the duramax have a different system.

No stock lift pump. Wash the engine off with some good degreaser, then drive it around for a while then check for fuel leaks.

Since you just did the fuel filter, make sure it's tight and the WIF sensor is tight. Check the bleeder screw on top of the filter housing for a leak. Those are plastic and always seem to leak. If it's leaking replace the bleeder screw.

Make sure that both of the O rings that come with the fuel filter are there in place sometimes the top one doesn't seat correctly and that could cause a loss in fuel pressure.

I use petroleum jelly on both o-rings when I reinstall the filter. Helps hold them in place and lubes them for easy tightening.
