Low power

have an 05 LLY blocked and stuck w/ 4" magnaflow down pipe back. prob i'm having is a constant low power/shitty mileage thing. power was back to normal after the last oil change, i tightened the egr flange, fiddled with the maf position and that was it, it ran like a scalded dog for about a week and a half and averaged 17 in town but now is back to 15.5 and is under powered. no tune or other mods, and it started doing this about 6 months after i got, bone stock it and i've had her about 3 years. dealer says nothings wrong and there's no other diesel shops here in jax i use the same gas station for fuel and i've tried others to no effect. change fuel filters religiously 3-5k. any info would be helpful

change your fuel filter first and make sure you didnt get some bad fuel 3 to 5 k is great but if i have low power problems first then go from there and welcome to diesel bombers :yeah:

I've tried that time and again and it makes no difference i just cant think of any thing else to look at besides fuel/air/oil. the damn dealer keeps tellin me there's nothing wrong and i've taken it to them 10-12 times with the same complaint. there's also an (exhaust leak, injector?) noise coming from the drivers wheel well at idle that went away when the power came back. they keep telling me the injectors check good and that there's a service bulletin to explain the noise but its not the same noise as it describes. just frustrated because i know how she should run and shes not runnin right

:humm: Boost leak? did you check the hoses on your intercooler?

foskeyso 04-12-2010 06:22 PM

Checked all the boots all tight all have oil seepage tho.

DIRTYMAX2004 04-12-2010 06:44 PM

:humm: turbo going out??? do you have a boost guage?

foskeyso 04-12-2010 08:19 PM

no not yet i bought it w/ 25k on it, the old guy only pulled his camper w/ it and it now has 79k, turbo spools up fine doesn't smoke at all even when gettin on it hard no cat now but she use to blow black smoke before i put the exhaust on no white smoke tho i don't think shes gettin enough fuel but i don't have the time or the money for any kind of serious down time for tinkering as shes my daily driver

where did you put the MAF, you said you moved it :humm:

foskeyso 04-13-2010 09:25 AM

Just turned it in its housing stock location just turned a little. Play in the sensor screw holes. I think I have a boost leak some where I just can't find it. Its really tickin me off because the fuel mileage shits the bed when its doing this

2500HeavyDuty 04-13-2010 12:13 PM

put the maf back how it was

Rttoys 04-13-2010 01:22 PM

Pull the MAF and clean it. use spray carb cleaner to clean it. Make sure it's dry before you put it back in. Don't need a run away engine or anything :scare2:

Other than that, check for codes. There might be one set that won't turn on the CEL.

foskeyso 04-13-2010 03:25 PM

tried it in diff positions no effect cleaned it with maf cleaner also to no effect

TruePerformanceDiesel 04-15-2010 01:33 AM

check ur boots for slits. mine had one didnt notice it until i removed the boost tubes.

foskeyso 04-15-2010 08:42 AM

Checked em yesterday no visable damage tightend all of then again till i was afraid of breaking them a little better now but not what it should be i think the maf is caked with k&n oil and the maf cleaner cant get it off it looks like the sensor has ash or carbon burnt on to it. i forgot to hook the maf back up and drove it for about a mile fore i noticed the CEL was on but it had a lot more power running in open loop mode with it disconnected

MAF is an expensive puppy :ouch:

this is the filter pack from one of the new style plastic WIX filters had 33% life left according to the DIC any one know of a better fuel filter?

DIRTYMAX2004 04-15-2010 01:29 PM

I ussualy run the AC Delco. Dont go by the DIC for filter changes. Go by the number of miles you put on. I do mine about every 5k or so...

foskeyso 04-15-2010 01:39 PM

thats when i change it 30% is around 5k

the noise your hearing might be a turbo leak. Buddy had the same issue and he found the leak of air and it brought it back to 100%
