i havent had time to replace the line with a clear one. ill try get that done this weekend. may buy new lines and replace the one goin to the filter. do you know if the hand pump on top of the filter should always be hard?

it should always stay relatively hard when the engine is not running but will soften up when running do to the suction on the filter. also i have found no benefit to pumping it while running, if you where ever wondering.

hmm alrighty. do you know if bad injectors would make it not get hard when not running? cuz it always seems to stay soft. i pump it alot then itll finally get hard then i stop fer a few seconds and wait an itll b soft again.

Just my two cents we had an 01 in for the same issure it turned out to be the starter wasnt cranking fast enough just a thought.

the edge shows its crankin the motor over about 200 rpm. do you know how fast its suppose to be?

sounds like the check valve in the filter housing is leaking.

cranking at 200 rpm is good. around 180 is standard.

Im not a dmax expert but I thought it was suppose to be higher... Fords are around 700 RPM Cummins is 600 RPM, could be wrong though

if the check valve was goin bad, would that cause it not to start like im experiencing??

well i replaced the fuel line going out of the filter housing with a clear one. didnt help anything and i didnt see any air bubbles going thru. but i washed the filter housing off the other day cause it looked dirty and thought maybe it was leaking. i noticed it is wet where the inlet fuel elbow goes into the housing. so it might be leaking a little. whats your guys input on that?

the housing has been known to develop hairline cracks. how long does it take for the primer bulb to to go soft after priming it till hard without starting the engine?

a bad check valve will allow the fuel to drain back into the tank requiring you to prime it every time and then it may not hold a prime long enough to start. you could try and pressurize the fuel tank to about 5 psi and prime the filter then while the tank is still under pressure see if it starts. it may take a few attempts if air is in the rails.

to pressurize the tank ether get the special cap with an air fitting or put the air hose into the tank and sealed by a rag. have someone hold it in while you prime it and attempt to start the engine

the hand primer is ALWAYS loose everytime i shut the truck off after its been running. takes about 8-10 pumps to get it firm. if you let it sit without starting it it usually starts getting loose within 1-2 minutes er so probably.

also, i did replace the two fuel lines going to the fuel filter and from the fuel filter housing with new.

i just watched a video on youtube where a guy was experiencing the same problem as me. he had a hung injector and it wouldnt build rail pressure. he did a test to make sure. here is the video
does anybody know what he did exactly? i thinkin bout trying it
