03 4500 oil in exhaust
I am getting oil out of the exhaust in my truck. I am getting oil in the cylinder some where. My two part question is, does this truck throw a code if it senses low compression in a cracked piston or piston ring situation, and what would be the best way to go about testing for the which cylinder is having the problem. the trucks new to me so I am open to all ideas on the situation. thanks in advance, John

is this for a duramax (posted in Duramax section) or a Cummins as you filled out as your truck?

4500 top kick. family work truck. its odd it doesn't smoke, knock, or have turbo problems. I'm thinking the gasket is leaking oil into the cylinder. open to suggestions.

Injector o rings?

that would cause oil in the exhaust?

do you have any photos? seems odd to me.
any oil getting into the cylinder should be burnt during combustion or scraped off by the rings. seems like it is more likely to be something else (water or unburnt fuel?) turning dark from soot. does this sound possible? i know weirder things have happened |
I do have oil in the right bank manifold. I am going to pull the head and see if the gasket, or any of the pistons, show any problems. Id like to pressure check the cylinders first though. It is new to us, but the price I picked the top kick up for made it worth while figuring this issue out.

got the head off and there is a hole in the piston. :scare2:

that would have been about the last thing i would have guessed. the duramax should have an oil jet that sprays the bottom of the piston for cooling so that makes sense.
what is it from? leaking injector? post up some photos, lets see this |
Me too. I am going to pull the whole motor and get some good pics. Looks like some pieces got pushed up into the head, but I don't think it took damage, but we will see. I thought is was still running to well to be a hole in a piston.
