Toot your own horn much? Its funny every truly experienced tech I've hired wasn't much for telling folks how good he was. Its easy to be a ase super dooper master tech behind a keyboard.
Not saying your not a awesome tech, just saying that im not to sure your too convincing.

Just makin a point, jobs can be done quickly, effeciently and correctly. Im a firm beleiver in cleanliness and torque wrenches but being clean and correctly torquing fasteners doesnt mean you have to be slow. I dont consider myself an awsome tech, theres always someone faster, smarter, better. However, I dont feel the need to degrade a person who is faster by saying their work is poor. Thats a common way of thinking with techs, shops, and gearheads in generall. We all wana beleive we have the fastest truck, the most powerful truck, the best shop, or do the best work. I never said well if its taking you the full amount of time you must be doing it wrong but, theres room for improvement. Where we are located speed means the diff. between getting the job and the customer goin somewhere else. Everyone wants the cheapest repair so a quote of 8-10 hrs is more competitive than quoting 12 hours.

I rest my case. There is a reason the guy in your shop used to work on aerospace, some people don't have the patience or ability to work on aerospace. (gorilla mechanics) don't last very long. If you make a mistake when a plane is at altitude there are very bad consiquences. If a hot shot diesel mech rushes through a job and pinches a seal or torques something incorrectly the worst case scenario is a tow truck ride.

As mystery stated the reason I doubt your ability, plain and simple you talk to much. I bet you have a smoke tune on your truck and don't care if you blow the thing up.
Some people actually work with there truck and don't wanna rip the thing apart 4 times.

And saying that you quote a customer less than book is downright crazy. Those book times are pretty accurate. Sure, after you do a couple I'm sure you can cut the time down but 5.5 hours c'mon dude. I'm sure you adjusted the valves while you were in there as well.

And when I have to do mine again I'll point my bat light into the sky and you can fly down and do mine in 5.5

We charge book so when a job falls apart because of a gorilla tech....
You see, as a shop owner you may make good on one job and the next you might spend 12 hours fixing a screw up. Guess what we are all human and we all make mistakes... not you of course but the rest of us
We pay hourly and bill book, if your taking less than book your shooting yourself in the foot.
Im with fox on this subject

touche. I agree I do like to run my mouth at times. There are several shops in this area and we all try and price cut each other, thats how it goes. As far as valves go thats not part of the injector replacement procedure and Im not the service writer here. Thats between them and the customer. As far as my personal truck goes it runs very clean for whats on it, no more than a slight haze at wot. Smoke is for high schoolers.
