Pulling/overheating Problem
Hi
I have 02 Duramax 2500 HD 6.6, went camping with the 5th wheel and started to have overheating issues when climbing hills or bucking the wind. I am able to keep if under control by lowering my speed and babying the truck. When I stop it starts to leak coolant near the back on the passenger side where the tranny & engine connect. When i am not pulling the truck runs perfectly fine, no overheating or leaking coolant. Might this be a gasket issue due to the pressure from the turbo? Any help would greatly appreicated! Pat |
Is this the first time u have towed with this or is it a new broblem? Is there any coolant in the oil? Does ur fan kick on when it gets worm? The coolant coming out behind the motor worries me. But its only when its towing which is weird. I would say check the oil, the fan, and make sure u have coolant and its flowing, stuck thirmostat.

No, i have been towing with it for the past 6 years. Have not checked the oil yet for coolant, yes the fan does kick in, coolant is good for right now unless I am towing then i will lose some due to the leak.

could be a bad head gasket

I would say it probably has a blown head gasget if the coolant is leakin out the back of the motor. It sounds like when its under a load building lots more boost than normal driving conditions it picks the head up a little bit

Head gasket would be my guess too
