Is the "install kit" sold by some injector suppliers really necessary?

Getting ready to replace the injectors on my 2003 Silverado. Some places offer an install kit, with seals, O-rings, etc. Is this necessary? After emptying my wallet of $1800, another $200 will hurt.

BTW, Diesel Bombers has the best write-up for replacement instructions. Great job, guys!

Looking forward to reply. I am ready to get wrenching...

You don't ned the whole kit, the valve cover gasket can be reused, but the return line seals you will need, the injector cup oring, you might need. Most of the time you won't.

The rings and copper washers come with the new injectors.

Go to the dealer and ask for injector return line seals should be ten total, and some injector sleve o rings. Should be fairly cheap.

Don't forget the IDM banjo washers and its also a good idea to get a new coolant cross over pipe o-ring as well. Dont worry about getting injector cup o-rings...If you pull an injector cup its usually a good idea to just replace it.

If you need any help or have questions please feel free to PM or call me. I have done several of these. Thanks

$200 is ridiculous. I know of kits that are $45 a side, which is EVERYTHING you need, excluding RTV sealant. Let me guess, the kit your looking at is M/A?
