03 Duramax Injector Replacement

It looks like I will be replacing injectors. Grey smoke at idle. Any suggestions on replacement injectors.

If your truck is under 200000 miles GM will take care of it Because it was a recall but if you was wanting aftermarket I would recommend ATS

not if its an 03 its past the 7 year mark ...they wouldnt have fixed it anyway..it has to be making oil they wouldnt have covered it for just smoking..

03 Duramax Injector Replacement

Thanks for the replys. The warranty is out. July 02 Manufacture date.
Starts fine in cold weather (down to -10F) without the block heater. Would bad injectors cause hard starting? Have never had to add oil between changes.

Got some bad fuel about a month ago then started smoking excessively at idle. Changed fuel filter and added BG 244. Still smokes at idle.

try running some diesel clean addative for a while ..how many miles do you have ?do you know if your injectors have ever been replaced? from what ive seen the trucks start smoking about 130000 miles..mine got replaced at 140000 for the second time...

03 Duramax Injector Replacement

My 03 has 138K. I have owned it since about 34K. No injector replacement to my knowledge.

I am taking it to the shop tomorrow to get it checked.

Have not tried diesel clean additive. Have used BG 244 a couple of times.

Thanks

this will help out with alot of questions

you are probably due for injectors ...have the balance rates checked that will tell you for sure.

sorry to jump into the conversation, but i have the same problem and was hoping for explinations. grey smoke at idle, but only once and a while, goes away while driving. its an 04 duramax with 122,000 miles. does the recall affect me? how would i go about checking the balance rates of the injectors? if there aftermarket injectors, could it be just putting too much fuel in at idle, but burning it off normall at road speeds? new to the duramax community, just trying to get a better understanding. thanks!

Thats what the symptomes usually are for injectors smoking at idle only. goes away as the rpms go up ..it only gets worse with time . make sure your dipstick level isnt over full and doesnt smell like diesel..usually the dealer wont fix it for just smoking the balance rates have to be way out of spec or the truck has to be making oil..the only way i know how to have the balance rates checked is to take it to the dealer might cost you a bit ..i know some programmers can do it not sure which ones..
