adding brake fluid to oil

I had a old man tell me that he's worked on diesels his whole life, knows them inside out, etc. and that instead of replacing injectors, to just add a quart of brake fluid to the oil and a quart to your gas... Has anyone ever done this? Heard of this? Had any results from this? It seems like crazy talk to me, but thought I'd throw it out there for everyone to comment on... :pca1:

If you haven't read the flash point on a bottle of DOT 3?!? :argh:

I have never heard of this. I have heard BBG injector cleaner in the fuel and the local dealership here is using a BBG machine that hooks to the fuel system to clean the injectors. They recommend every 25k.

Maybe an old mechanical diesel this trick would work, but I would be weary with a HPCR.

Yeah, this dude was telling me about my diesel while pointing at my boat motor (2 cycle)... He was older, so i just carried on the convo just to keep from being rude... Lol, i just didn't know if anyone had done this or whatever... seemed crazy to me...

Old truckers used to run to run brake fluid in the diesel to help clean the pump and hone the injectors alittle for some added power and mileage i believe if i remember right. I however would not suggest doing this since it was on old mechanical pumps and not common rail trucks and $hit.

Are you sure he wasnt talking about ATF and not brake fluid??

kazairl 09-19-2010 12:17 AM

Either way, I wouldn't run it in a Common Railed engine. Those injectors are WAY too finnicky.

nah, he said brake fluid... maybe he meant ATF... I'm not doing it either way... I use Lucas additives already and they seem to work fine...

Ya that sounds scary since brake fluid can peel paint if you let it sit long enough. I have use ATF in the wifes camry when in a pinch. And actually in a old beater car on the regular never had an issue there. Dont know if that would be the same on a DEZ. :tu:
