removing valve cover???
 
i am in the process of changing the injectors. but i am stuck i can not get the valve covers off.

i looked around on here and the diy with pics showing the pry points but i can still not figure out how to do it (without breaking the cover) and even the pry points there is nothing to pry against.

any triks or hints?? do they make a puller? how does the dealer do it?

any help would be great

I took the wheel and liner off then used a long socket and a screwdriver to pry up on the valve cover on the tab that sticks out and against the exhaust manifold.

It takes a good amount of pry to break the RTV silicone loose, and I doubt you will break the valve cover.

are you at the point where you have to pry them? is it the first time pryng them off? the original sealant is some tough stuff. your gonna need a rolling pry bar for it

yes i am at that point on passenger side, yes its my first time taking them off. what is a rolling pry bar and where do i get one!

and what is the rolling pry bar going to do for me and how where do you pry from?

Rolling Pry bar, put the hook on the tab on the valve cover and the heel on the injector rail.

I am trying to do the drivers side now, there are hard lines and what looks like a controller toward the firewall,

do i have to remove these? what are they? they look like there is compression fittings, how do they come apart?

what is the procedure? any help will be great. step by step, pics etc.

Also FYI I got the valve cover off easy, i took a large socket on the lower head bolt just below one off the lower cover tabes. I put an 3/8 to 1/2 adapter on the socket (just to raise it up a liitle, a deep socket was to high and shallow socket to low.) then i took a piece of heavy deep strut (electrical supply (i am an electrical contrator so i had it handy)) on top of the scocket and slid it under the tab and pushed downward with not to much presuure it broke free.

The drivers side has the glow plug controller that will need to be removed, and the fuel lines. You will need to get ahold of a fuel line tool to un clip the lines.

the controller is for the glow plug relay control , there is a power wire going to it, just unbolt it and undo the hare harness at the connectors and then there is two bolts holding it down, make sure to unbolt the nut that is on the last glow plug, its holding down a wire that comes from the relay and it keeps you from removing it.

the two lines, they are quick disconnect lines, you need a quick disconnect tool, the plastic ones work great for that.

what should i get to reseal the upper valve cover? OEM stuff from GM or other (whats best?)

any tricks to cleaning off all the old gasket goop? and it appers they where thinking of oringing the upper valve cover (grooved out)? why didnt they?

just the regular stuff they sell at an autoparts store for valve covers, oem stuff is great i think a tube will cost ya 14 dollars :humm:

i used a britsle disc to clean it up, scotch brite pads work ok on it, gaskey scrapers work good too
