put a stick on the accelerator and have it hold like 12-1500 rpms and learn how to work the clutch untill you get a feel for it, then try it using both pedals.

those 6speeds manuals are a rare dmax

Yeah, you found a nice truck. As long as it's not white lol. White duramaxes just don't look nice...

anywhoo. Practise in a yard or a parking lot from idle into 1st gear. Starting out is the hardest, that's where you'll stall. Shifting gears 1-3 is the hardest...once you're going above ~40mph or shifting 4th gear and above it's easy to shift, no matter what vehicle you're in. At that speed you'll have enough momentum that it will be almost impossible to screw up the shift.

And man, if it's your daily driver, don't even worry about it. You'll learn it in no time. You'll have to since it's your only way to get around. Just make sure that truck has good injectors on it.

You have a very strong clutch you will do fine.

StarT in 2nd first is to low gear, its not that hard, love mine. AND ITS WHITE:moon:

slodsm 03-16-2010 09:16 PM

13,500 will get you in a decent duramax. I only paid 14 for mine (I think) and it was an 03 with 86k and a clear title history and 100% dealer serviced.

And learning a stick is not a problem, my wife learned in a day in a school parking lot and was drag racing a Mustang GT at the track a couple of weeks later. :c:

Pigg 03-16-2010 09:24 PM

do yall have any suggestions of websites where i could find a decent diesel for 13500? thanx for all the help

I miss my manual Duramax :( It should be pretty easy to get used to. There is enough torque in a diesel that you really dont have to give it much throttle. I taught a girl how to drive a stick with mine. It didnt take her long to get the hang of it and she never drove a manual before.

lehre 03-21-2010 07:21 PM

Nothin hard about a manual...with the right attitude. My son learned in a couple hours (right attitude), my wife still says she can't drive one & I've had a 5 speed TJ for about 5 years now(wrong attitude). You should have no trouble learning with all the torque a diesel makes. Enjoy your new truck.

I'd keep the 6.0L personally, it's made it this far and seems to be relatively problem free, i've heard some going over 400k miles with no bad problems, and what i've come to realize is you're not getting the Dmax with the manual?

Pigg 03-25-2010 09:18 PM

Yeah I didnt get the D-Max the guy was askin to much for it. So I sold my 6.0 and bought a 2001 F350 with only 121000 miles on it with the 7.3. I love it Im diggin tha 7.3:choochoo:

nice, the 7.3 is a little short on power compared to modern engines today, but they are very reliable comparative to the 6.0

zach_west 03-28-2010 10:52 AM

and they have alot less problems than the 6.0s. and some of the dmax's had 6 speed manuals. my bro has one.

lehre 03-28-2010 11:58 AM

Congrats on the 7.3. We have one at work, its a good reliable truck. Wouldn't mind having that one myself.

BW Motosports 03-30-2010 01:59 PM

Good choice for the money. I only paid 12000 for my D-Max and it only had 73000 miles on it 2 years ago. now im up to 109000 :c:

Pigg 03-31-2010 10:22 AM

thanx guys:tu:. Im lovin tha 7.3. i did notice the power diff but im fixin to chip it put a intake in it and straight pipe the exhaust so it should add some get up and go to it :choochoo:

BW Motosports 03-31-2010 11:10 AM

The 7.3 is a real reliable engine just under powered. Onther upgrade you should look into is a upgraded compressor wheel like this one Xtreme Diesel's X-Wheel Compressor Wheel and a upgraded wastegate actuator Banks Power High Performance Wastegate Actuator #24401. Good luck with your truck :c:
