you will get very good mileage with the 6 speed, they have no problems towing or anything unless you try and put a big tune on there. but there aftermarket stuff for it.

those prices seem kind of high, but the mileage does seem really low :humm: wonder what kid of life it had.

2wd might be a problem, like getting stuck in wet grass :D

the GMC was n older guys truck who died n he toewd a fifth wheel camper.the chevy crew i dont know about.the prices are fair for my area.diesels around here are like gold.hell a D-max with 100k+ go for around $20.its crazy:scare2: the 2wd thing for me isnt an issue cuz i'm doin a SAS.i'm wanting to run about 400-500HP and 800-900ft.is it goin to take a lot of $$$ to get these numbers out of these yr D-maxes.will the tranny take it?what kinda of mileage are you thinkin?i hear some say 14mpg then others say 22mpg.i tow a 22tho pound gooseneck how would it hold up with those numbers n that weight.:humm:

i have a 2002 4wd with the 6 speed. i am very happy with it. i usually get 20-22 mpg with 35's without a trailer. i did the edge juice w/additude and i had to put another clutch in it not long after, because the stock clutch was not doing it anymore. i think the tranny will be fine you will have to do a high performance clutch with that power range though. really any diesel you buy doing any mod's to it are going to cast alot of money. since you want to go that high in the ft/lbs it will cast you a few grand depending on what you go with.
i have a few friends with the allison and its a great tranny for anything but i will need to be built it you start building your motor up. i have heard of ppl getting 16-18 mpg with the allison without any trailer

upgraded clutch and you will be fine holding the power with it

Im getting 20-24 in town and have got as much as 26.8 on the highway. Ive got a PPE Hot and a few other goodies. The biggest down fall so far is the clutch,k but im saving for a southbend.:tu:

I do tow with mine alot. Ive grossed out at around 50k and still got a little under 10 mpg. It usually gets aroung 14-17 when grossed at aroung 32-36k.
