It runs just like new once started. Filter was changed within 10,000 mi. I can shut it off and then restart is just the same no matter how long it has been sitting. It does not spit and sputter when cranking it just cranks then bing it starts.

and its not throwing any codes? does it blow any smoke after it starts and when its running? if so what color? does it have a edge chip? ppl have been having some different problems with that chip. usually i have to change my fuel filter about every 10,000 or sooner because they get plugged up fast. they are such a small micron filter they catch everything.

how old are you batteries, check your oil and see if there is any diesel in there.

those are simple checks you can do.

Is there any smoke out the exhaust when your first start it up after being cold?

Motoxwes 02-04-2010 08:07 PM

yup glow plugs working, does it hot or cold

let it sit for about 24 hours if you can and then look though the mirror and look at the tail pipe and watch for any smoke during startup

I have the same exact problem as "Motoxwes"...

Had it in to the dealer to check injectors, fuel pressure, fuel return, diesel in the oil, startup smoke, etc... and the dealer can't find any codes or problems!!! They actually tell me that it starts good for them??? I've had this truck since new, and never had to nearly kill new bateries to start it. So I think they are lost on what is creating the problem.
They replaced the fuel filter, batteries, and even the schrader valve... $1000.00 later and still no fix.
Something to note is the long cranking times seem to "sometimes" produce false error codes like "service air bag" and the latest... "service 4 wheel drive". That error actually disabled the ability to use 4 wheel drive (dash buttons did not light up or work) then the "4 wheel drive" returned to normal the next morning. The truck only has 60,000 miles on it and has been serviced regularly since new. I somehow think that something electrical is stopping it from starting when it should. Is that a possibility?

Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Ray

I had a similar problem with my work trk (international) and it was a faulty crank shaft pos. sensor. But I am leary of shelling out about $90 plus my time without knowing for sure. Was hoping there was an easy way to check it, I am not getting any check eng. lts.

Thanks,
Wes

I let it set every weekend and no smoke on start up.
