01 injector pump

anyone had to replace theirs, dealer told me I should replace mine, 97,000miles, ran it with diag. and it gave "massive fuel leak", problem seems to be intermittent. tech told me that for the labor involved in replacing pressure regulator, I should go with the full replacement of the pump. Anyone have any experience with this, also should I go with a brand new pump versus a remanu.

the amount of time to replace the fuel pressure regulator vs the time to replace the cp3 is a huge difference

ive done both a few times, but since it it an 01 it dont be that bad of an idea.

theres quite of few things that need to come off and u will need 3 gaskets and two o-rings when ur done from the dealer.

you will have to remove the power steering pump, (three bolts on the front and two on the side) AC compressor and lay it out the way, The mounting bracket for them, and he alternator and its mounting bracket. the thermostat housing and coolant crossover tube, the wire harness, turbo inlet, all the fuel lines on the top of the motor and then u can see the booger lol

id go with a new pump pump, they can be found for pretty cheap if you search around.

Thanks for the reply, you described everything the tech told me regarding the removal aspect of the job. They told me the job would be $1800, out of which they charged me for 10hrs of labor? I think the price their quoting me is for a remanufactured one.
Do you know if all the pumps installed by the dealer are rebuilds? Also, I do have a friend who can do the job, save me at least $500, I will admit after seeing the dealer tech diagnose it with that computer tool, which told him what all the injectors were doing and all the fuel pressures, I'm led to believe that it's a requirement to do the job right.
Thanks,
Happy new year!
