Pulled Injector cups / Injector sleeves
 

While pulling my injectors out again i managed to pull out two cups. Ive pulled a cup out before cleaned it and pressed it back in, but apperently it was not good enough the first time cause i had pressure in my cooling system.

Inside the head where the sleeve mates with the head its real dirty and theres alot of residue left over from the locktite. I got some ideas on how to clean it likes using a very soft wire brush used to clean pipes. but who else has some methods on cleaning the cup and heads real good.

I did the same things with the cups when i pulled mine. When I tried to start it , it was hydro-locked so I had to bump and bump and bump the starter until it finally came to life.

did you get coolant in your cylinders, that happened to me the first time and i had to bump the engine over till it all came out

It's kinda like the powerstrokes. Theres not a real good way to NOT fill the cylinders up.
They actully make a cleaner thats for loctite....BUT i've found that as long as there's no rubber or delicate compontes in the way gasket remover or aircraft stripper. then use a bore brush, I'm sure Miller or someone who has an approved brush sized for the bore.
We've got a suction tool we use to remove the A/F or oil from the top of the piston.
Almost every LB7 at some point will probably need a injector cup or two! Make sure you keep some sort of suction or vaccum source near by

The following Manual statements mention the use of a gm part number for adhesive. I would at least make sure the sealant used was at or above the specs of the gm adhesive!
Important: Inspect the seating surface on the fuel injector sleeve and the fuel injector sleeve bore in the cylinder head for debris or damage. If the injector sleeve bore is damaged, the cylinder head may need to be replaced.

Clean the fuel injector sleeve lower sealing area (1) and the sleeve bore with GM PIN 12377981, (Canadian PIN 10953463), or equivalent.








Lubricate and install NEW O-rings (1) onto the fuel injector sleeve (2).








Install the fuel injector sleeve onto J45910.








Apply adhesive GM P/N 12345493, (Canadian P/N 10953488), or equivalent to the fuel injector sleeve lower sealing area (1).








Install the fuel injector sleeve with J45910 into the cylinder head.








Lightly tap on J45910 with a hammer to install and seat the fuel injector sleeve.
Remove J45910 from the fuel injector sleeve.
Install the fuel injector(s).

i managed to get away with out filling up my cylinders up with coolant, i raised the back of the truck up a little bit and drained everything out the drain valve on the radiator.

gasket remover, they make a liquid/paste form of that? only thing i have close to that available is 3m adhesive remover, im thinkin maybe wrapping a rag around a pipe brush soaked with it and cleaning out the sleevless injector bore to clean the lockitie out.

same thing with the sleeves/ cups left in the head using a rag and compressed air to blow the carbon buildup in them out

The injector sleeve tool looks like a nice tool, but its really expensive. I hear of people also putting locktite on the orings for the injector cup to make sure it seals up good. and as a precaution alsoo wait 24hrs so the locktite can settle and cure

Loctite on the orings dosent sound like a good idea to me. I'd be concerned that it would comprimise the seal of the oring.

Gasket remover is available in spray , It's almost like a jelly. It's available at any major parts store!

cool, ill look into the gasket remover tomorrow morning. i got a hold of a gun cleaning kit with long extensions and all sorts of abrasive bits i can use to clean my sleeves and heads with im going to use that also.

locktite on the orings ive head from members on other forums, they said they have had no problems with it.

just seems like the o-rings would harden and become brittle.

hmm, ill stick with petro jelly then
