Hello Danno!!!

heres a link to my photo album when i relaced the cp3.
cp3 replacement pictures by 2500heavyduty - Photobucket you will need an assortment of deep and regular metric sockets, 19mm crows foot. and a 27mm socket iirc :humm: for the cp3 gear and puller. you will have to remove power steering bracket, altinator bracket, thermostat housing, coolant crossover tube, and all fuel lines in around the cp3. the greenish steel return lines can be unbolted and bent out the way for removal of the cp3. there is 4 bolts holding the cp3 to the front of the engine, you removing it you will have to slowly wedge it out with screw drivers and pick it up and roll it out from the bottom towards you. this details are in short i can explain better if you have q's |
Thanks for the photos! Removed the old one today in about 3 1/2 hrs. Going back together tomorrow. Your pictures are a big help!
|
nice work that was pretty quick
|
Put it back together today. Took 3 hrs. No extra bolts and its started right up!! Going to test drive tomorrow. Not a hard job, just have to remember where everything goes. Pics really helped.
Whats the best way to bleed the coolant system? I filled it up but want to make sure there isn't any air trapped. Thanks |
there is a bleed screw on the top center of the thermostat housing

another successful cp3 instal with these pics, thanks alot.
Have an 01 duramax Dealer couldnt find the problem but had a 5th gear p0093 code during acceleration or when pulling. air tools can make it go much faster, didnt have any. took 7-8 hours start to finish including a trip to the dealer across town and napa.. parts: I bought a few orings , 8 new fuel line hose clamps, 2 thermostat gaskets, 2 water crossover pipe metal gaskets where it mounts to the head from the dealer. Bought the cp3 new from L and J diesel in Jacksonville fl for 675.00 Took the old and new cp3 to tire kingdom and they air tooled the nut off and on. Used a gear puller to pull the gear off the old one. I didnt take quite as much off as the pics just took off everything as I went along that appeared to be in the way. Once you get to the cp3 you only need to remove the four bolts from the front of the engine that hold it in to get it out. You dont need to loosen any screws that screw in to the cp3 in the back. You will wiggle and wiggle but it comes out eventually. I had to pump the fuel bleeder at the fuel filter 3 times between start attempts before it would crank. you will need 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, 15mm, 11/16(wrench), 3/4(wrench), and 15/16(wrench). I never took the radiator fan off or loosened it. It was not in the way. Had one leak at the end it was the small oring on the top of the thermostat housing. It pinched some how going in. Truck spools more, its faster and idles baby smooth. Worth it but alot of time and work. Best install price I could find was 675. IF you got the extra money pay someone. Glad I did it the kids learned alot. thanks for the info and the pics |
Hi Guys
new to the site I'm having the same issues with my 01 2500 hd 5th grear limp code p0093. thats the only time it does it runs a little ruff at idle i change the FPR sometime ago thinking that was the issue but nope still doing it. i also change fuel fiter every 5000 miles or so. i have no fuel in oil either do you think it would be my cp3 pump? |

Hi I cant access the photos either and need the password if you could please send it to me @ cnkavara8@sbcglobal.net that would sure help Im sure, got to replace my pump soon its getting worse every day. Again thanks for all the help on this site its great have used it for 3-4 repairs so far and everything has worked out great.
2003 duramax pretty much stock, new injectors, fpr, and kit for fuel filter head, has 5 inch exhust, cold air atf air filter, and new transfer case because of hub rub. Getting hard to start rough and looping, and wont go over 75 miles an hour, and hrows code P1093 dealer said it could be flex lines at tank, fuel filter or fpr or pump, as I said have new fpr, and change filter every oil change and checked all lines and still no sign of anything there so going to try a new pump and hope that will fix the problem. Thanks Again for all you guys helping us out here, makes working on my truck alot easier for sure. Thanks Curtis A. |
