I pulled the air filter and cleaned it already, because I was thinking the same thing and that was an easy check but it wasn't too bad.

I've been talking to some other people, and everyone seems to think turbo problems.

i know this is about a duramax, but a friend of mine has a 00 or 01 cummins. his just poured the black. he didnt have to hardle touch the throttle to leave a black cloud. but he also had no power, he couldnt hardley pull the small hill to my house. so he put on an aftermarket intake setup, it helped a bit but something was still wrong. so i got in there an a the pipe from the turbo to the intercooler was just sittin there, so he was getting no air. put that back on and he about shit himself. doesnt hardley smoke anymore

Today I noticed that my turbo doesn't seem to spool up like it should. I've been babying it because she ain't feelin good these days. So I put my foot into her a bit to see if I could hear something. I still have my warranty, but I don't know if what I need is covered. I have found in the past that because it's attached to the motor or drive train doesn't mean it's covered on the warranty.

check the driver side boost tube, it can rub up against the power steering lines at the box and create a hole in the boost tube greatly affecting the performance of the turbo.

you can either pull the boost tube off or just look at it by pulling off the driver side fender liner.

the dealer probably pulled that boost tube when they replaced the injectors, it gets in the way of alot of things when working on the driver side. and its possible that when re installing the tube it was installed too close to the power steering lines letting it rub up against it all the time.

In most cases if it's the turbo the truck will run hot under aload.:c:
