Looking at an 01 Duramax, 2WD, ext cab long bed.
Anything to look out for? I've heard there is an injector issue, but injectors aren't that much, are they? Is this a decent year to buy? Not sure about mileage yet, but it's going for $10,800. Should I be looking at a newer model or was this a pretty decent run for these trucks? Any help or suggestions are appreciated. :U:

there is a 7 year/200k mile warranty on the lb7 injectors, so the warrenty for the truck will be up by the end of this year if they go bad.
Some trucks kill injectors all the time, while some never had a problem with them at all. Its about a 4k job at the dealer to get them replaced. If you do have to replace them the valve covers must come off and its about an 8 hours job for a tech. the price is alright for that truck |
I just bought an '03 and i love it. Unless you can install the injectors yourself if they need to be replace then i've been told a couple grand to get fixed:w2: but then again i could be wrong... And i have heard the injectors themselves have a 10 year 200k miles warrenty. but that's on the injectors only nothing else.

Well it looks like they sold the 01, but the good news is they have a 04 Crew cab long bed 4WD with 70k miles for $16,995, which is pretty much exactly what I want. :U:
Any way to find out more info about the truck, like if it has the Allison tranny by the vin? 1gchk23184f140152 |
All Duramax's had Allison Trans:U: That one is the 5 speed Allison.

Is that a better one? I just looked up BB on this truck and their price seems to be close to $10k below retail. Kinda strange.....:humm: It's not mint, but it's in decent shape with no dents or dings, just minor paint chips which is fine with me. The tie rods look to be shot(which doesn't surprise me)and it's obviously been taken off-road a bit. It's got a small lift and some slightly cheesey rims/tires. I've got some pics: Attachment 55834 Attachment 55835 Attachment 55836 |
You can get a GOOD set of Tie Rod sleeves for like $150 or less.. or get HD Tie Rods..
As for the Trans, there are 2 of them.. 5spd and 6 spd.. both are great tranny's, but the 6 spd is a bit tougher. If the Tie Rods are FUBAR, then its prolly been beaten on.. I bet the trans has some issues.:booo: |
I'll see what kind of warranty they offer for it. Why do you think the tranny might have issues? I will be taking it off-road a bit and hope it can handle a bit of a beating. If it's got 70k on it and it's still ticking, I'd think it should be alright. :humm:
When you say "HD" tie rods, wouldn't this truck come with them already? I'm pretty sure it's a 2500HD? |
No I dont mean Factory Heavy Duty Tie Rods.. I mean Aftermarket HD Tierods.. HUGE Difference! :c:

the factory tie rods are tooth picks. need something to beef them up if truck is 4wd.
