LB7 hard to start .. Help!!
 
2002 Duramax LB7 - 216000 miles

Injectors, FPR, 1 glow plug module and right head (cracked) replaced last August.

In the past 2 weeks, my truck has got to where it's hard to start. Turn the key and it turns over but the started turns for many seconds until it finally starts like it finally gets some fuel pressure. Once it starts the engine idles smooth, doesn't surge and purrs like a kitten. (A friend told me I may have a hole in the return fuel line (but there's no fuel leaking anywhere (that I can see).)

Anybody got any ideas?

Its very possible that you have a leak on the return. Most common place is on the fuel tank. Your running a high pressure system grab a buddy hook a fuel gage to it have them turn key and see what you pressure is. Also you said you replaced glow plug mod but what about the plugs. If there weak it will take longer to start.:humm:

I just bought one of these Duramaxes to resell and I can't believe how many complaints I'm seeing about their crappy fuel system sucking air and losing prime!!!

Anyone who ownes one of these things seriously needs to put a transfer pump down on the frame. Asking the injector pump to draw fuel from the tank is just plain ignorant. Pulling fuel is like trying to push a rope!!! And you do NOT have to invest $400-$700 to do this. You can use a Gen 2 Dodge pump that will do the job great and only cost you about $85 at any Autozone. An oil filter adapter can be had for about $15 at your local farm store or NAPA, so you can use a screw-on filter and mount it right next to your new pump.

The crappy thing about Raptor, Air Dog and all that other high-dollar stuff is that you can't buy one at an auto parts store if one goes bad on a Saturday afternoon!!!! And who needs 150 gallons per hour, anyway?

Trust me - the "Raptor" store isn't open in Merrill, Wisconsin on Saturday afternoon!!! Been there and done that!!!!!!!!
