Wish me luck!!!
My new injectors from Lincoln Diesel are here and it's time to get started. I can't wait to get this finished and get my truck back on the road. It's been setting for a few weeks. It's funny how you miss driving your favorite vehicle. Thanks 2500 Heavy Duty for a great write up. And thanks to all others who share valuable info. I'm new to this site but will definitely spend a lot of time learning more about my truck.

good luck. one thing i picked up that helps me with cleaning the injector cup bores is the rotary attachment so u can get deep in the bore with a cleaning bristle and it really gets the bores clean if u pull a cup especially on the #8
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31VYXW10FCL.jpg ive even had to use it to cut off a few bolts on the valve covers cause someone who worked on it beforehand stripped them |
Best Of Luck ... pics if ya can...

Well, my first snag!! After getting the garage ready and the truck pulled in on Friday night...... the sickness I battled all week caught up to me. I was in the bed most of the weekend. Oh well, hope that's not a sign of things to come. I will not be defeated!!!!!

Well. I started the injector job today. I believe the worst part of the job will definetly be getting all the wiring harness and junk that's in the way off. I made it to that point on the passenger side. Now it's time to get down to business. Not sure how to attach, I hope it's the right size.

Don't you hate that moment when you put the upper valve cover with a bead of silicone on and reach for the torque wrench and see that you left the plastic cap on the injectors. Man, that SUCKS!
lol .... Yeah , thats a real sinking feeling ... DAMN IT !!!!
at least you don't have to fight with a Cali truck with egr more wires ect ect ect.......
LOL.. good point
Nothing makes you cuss more than that. I ranted the whole time it took to get the valve cover off and put back on.
at least you didnt put in a CP3 and find a oring laying on the ground the size of the CP3 oring and you already half way put the engine back together then pulled it back down to find the oring on the CP3 and the one on the ground came off the old fuel filter:argh::s:
Lol... take your time Grasshoppa ... Focus ....
shiet. the stories i could tell about putting stuff together and having to takeit out and put it back together.
how about 3 lb7 injector jobs in 6 weeks on the same truck. i got really good a changing cp3's i was able to do mine in less than an hour. but i did have a highly modified engine wire harness and fuel system |
Esepcially when you were done I'm sure .... :argh::argh:

I finished installing my injectors yesterday. Today I will attempt to get everything put back on top of the motor. Hopefully I remember where everything goes. I should get this baby fired up today. Check out the 2 injectors in the pic. I guess those o rings were the cause of diesel in my oil???? None of the cups came out, the all were still flush with the head. My question is this........would those o rings have gotten damaged during install at the factory? I bought the truck with 14k miles on it and it has never had injectors replaced. I have 200k now but started seeing grey smoke at red lights at about 170k. How else would the o rings get like that?

The other pic

imo the fuel in oil was from a cracked injector body that's what mine did anyway and as far as the orings I'm not sure why they are messed up but I don't believe that was the fuel in oil issue or it would have been doing it since the day the was built
Well........the injector job is finished !!!!!! I guess it took me about 28 hours over 2 weekends. I fired it up after 3 primes and my truck runs better than it has in years. The real test will be in a couple weeks when I hook the 40ft 5th wheel to it. Next thing I need to do is something with my power steering leak. Guess I need to search the forum.
you got lucky lol jk mine has been a no start for like 2 years......:argh:
2years??? What's up with that???
I got the truck as a no start and i was 16 when I got it so lotta saving up from part time jobs to buy parts first injectors then cp3 then glow plugs then ECM then FICM and still working on it it got hit by lightning and messed it all up with out a sign of damage anywhere
