Blocker Plate for the EGR

Hello Gents,

I have a 2004 6.6L LB7. 130,000miles and counting. No engine or transmission mods done.

I'm looking at getting an EGR Blocker Plate and was hoping to get some advice and questions answered. Any help is greatly appreciated.

#1 Does the EGR Blocker Plate throw any codes and/or the check engine light?

#2 If so do I need the Finger Stick mod or will a simple tuner fix the issue?

#3 If it does throw an engine code/check engine light will the truck still run normal or go into limp mode?

Again any help or advice is greatly appreciated!

Blocker plate will throw codes. EFI LIVE can shut it off without the blocker plate and it will run perfect. Blocker plate will only help when the boost hits over 20 psi and it causes the valve to kick open.

I'll be running over 20psi quite often.

Is it better to do the blocker plate or the complete delete?

blocker plate is suitable for more boost and smog cant see it

LB7 Don't have an EGR. Duramax didn't install EGRs until 04.5 with the LLY. LB7's have no emissions

Blocker Plate for the EGR

I'm surprised how many people say that it's very interesting.

Never the less though the truck is an LB7 and it does have emissions controls including an EGR.

Mine is a 2002 and it has an EGR. some LB7's starting in 2002 came with EGR if they were a California emissions vehicle.

Go with the blocker and finger stick if you don't wanna go to the complete delete. I ran a blocker and finger for a couple months with no issues. Have since upgraded to full delete. Also went to EFILive and highly recommend it. What a difference.

There were lb7's that came with emission control on them. I read it was the lb7s that were built and being shipped into states that had smog control n all the regulations. California was a big one. I have an 03 lb7. No egr. A buddy of mine had an early 04 with an egr on it. He just did a full delete on it. Worked pretty good for him. But he ran it in the 1/4 mile more than on the road.

All Duramax engines are built here in the states. The factory is in Moraine, Ohio.

some LB7s did come with smog controls on them. mine is an LB7 and has an EGR and came with a catalytic converter too.

Kooper - i would turn it off with Efi Live and put a plate in it. easy to reverse too if needed

So a guy could get away with running just the blocker plate for a while without tuning it out directly after? It wont throw codes or limp mode?

Snowbound98 04-02-2014 06:06 PM

Yes you can run just the blocker but you may throw a code. Best to use finger stick in conjunction with the blocker plate. It's cheap if your not gonna program the computer. Which engine you planning on running this way?

An early 04 lb7 Cali. I want to delete the egr now because I already have the plate and want to save up a few paychecks to get efi live with a dsp5 switch with a couple of tunes as well as tuning out the egr function.

Snowbound98 04-02-2014 06:32 PM

You'll love the EFI live. I would look on eBay for a finger stick. I have one for an LLY but I'm not sure if they are the same. I can't see why not. If they are the same let me know, I'll send ya mine for half the cost. I may still have the directions. Only used it for 2 weeks before doing EFI live.

Whatever you do, do not get the stupid lope/smoke tune. It's hard on the engine cuz it cuts the fuel on and off repeatedly. Not good for the CP3. Even thou it sounds bad ass it's not worth it.

That stuffs childish. I just want a 60 horse tune that bumps the mpgs a tad and gives me a bit more power! Will probably do a high idle tune if possible. I think I'm just gonna run the plate with nothing else for a month or so since there really is nothing wrong. Thanks!

Sounds good. Ur welcome.

Yes. if a piece of smog equipment is missing you will fail, unless they are morons and cant tell it is gone

with a blocker plate, as long as there is no CEL they should see nothing out of the ordinary with the engine and will have no reason to fail you

can any of you spot the blocker plate?
