Duramax getting stuck in snow
Hello everybody.
I bought a 2002 4X4 Duramax and this thing gets stuck in the snow all the time. I have stock rims and stock tires 245/75/R16. Also when I engage 4 wheel drive and look out the window it seems the front right tire is not spinning? Is this multiple problems or the stock tires? |
Get better tires, stay out of deep snow

My 01 with blizzaks is pretty impressive, but that tranny bracket looks like it could slow ya down a bit!
|
X2 on the tires. How much tread is on yours?
|
What do you expect for a Dmax :tttt:
|
Any tire ideas for A/T?

Cooper at3's go great!

Obviously the condition of the tire would matter but I've had this problem on occasion regardless of tire if your trying to cut across some semi frozen snow. I got stuck on a friends frozen lawn once in 2wd. In 4wd I got out but it was a pain in the butt. I found that the tire pressure was too high. If you're running E load pressures this could be an issue. I run my at around 40ish in the winter and not much higher when not towing anything in the summer as well. |
I've got 285/75/r16 nitto terra grapplers on my 02 D-max and it does great in snow. As for the front tire not spinning I believe that they have a open differential in the front so only one might spin. I could be wrong on that i'm not sure.

We get a good amount of snow here and for a good all terrain I personally have not seen anything better than the BFG all terrains. Although you really cannot beat a good snow tire. Just really need to change them out in the summer time. Are both your front tires not turning or just the one front?

cooper ST maxx is what I run up here in Alberta, in 4wd I don't usually have any issues, the front differential is an OPEN style so therefore all the power going to the front will always go to the tire with the LEAST traction
If you're stuck in 4wd try turning the front tires back and forth and rock the truck back and forth, that should get you out of 80% of situations, for all the rest call a buddy or start diggin Snow can be very hard to off road in because the density changes from soft to hard in a hurry, I know that if you hit a 3' tall drift you will almost go right over top of it |
goodyear mtr's are awesome in the snow!!!
