1995 Chevy 2500 wont even turn over!!!!

At first it was having a tough time starting up. Now it wont even turn over. Im getting power because I can turn on all my lights and radio. I checked every fuse hoping it would be an easy fix but nope thats not it. In the past its stalled a few times but always cranked right back up. Also have had some times where the truck would almost redline without me touching the gas (that was a lil scary). This is my first diesel I dont know much about them and Im hoping someone can help me pinpoint the problem. Thanks

Welcome to the site! Can you give some more information about your truck? Mileage, mods, trans, etc.

Check your connections at the batteries just because you have lights and radio dosent mean you have enough power to turn the engine over these trucks require alot of power in order to turn the engine over hense this is why we have 2 batteries

re: wont even turn over

I have disconnected both batteries cleaned the posts and reconnected them with no luck. I turn the key and the glow plugs seem to be working like usual. I hear the fuel pump kick on and vibrate but nothing not even a clicking sound.

I have even tried to jump start it twice, still has the same issue it just wont crank.

I would get batteries load tested your local Autozone or Advanced Auto will be able to do this and they will also charge them for free if they test OK I would then have the starter tested

Not the batteries or the starter

Hey again I just got back from discount auto and they tested the batteries and the starter both work just fine, So now Im back to the drawing board. If anyone has any suggestions it would help alot.

what trans do you have automatic or standard?

OK, check and see if 12v signal voltage coming to the starter. thats the small wire connected to the solenoid.
you'll need a friend to turn the key while you use a test light with the aligator clip to ground and you touch the signal wire.
if thats working, check that the starter is clicking. if so while the truck is in neutral and the wheels are chalked up grab that big ole fly wheel and see if you can make it move. if so it's probably in the ground.

if the signal wire does not light up, then you have to start digging
into the wiring. i had that happen when a ground wire on the back of the bell housing went loose it does all kinds of things then.

Well How BOut That!!!

After I got back from discount auto, I decided to check all the wiring and tighten the connections. Then I put the starter and the solenoid back together and then installed it. This time patiently making sure there was no way I would have to go back and make sure it was on there right. Grabbed the keys and gave it go and she let out a loud roar and cranked right on up. Im so happy and not one dollar wasted, except for the nail scrubber my girlfriend bought lol! I want to thank everyone for there input and helping me out. Just puts one more badass truck back on the road!
